Voted Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2 the 21st best game of all time, out of 50.
I thought that was pretty cool.
What I didn't think was very cool was that Deus Ex was 27 :(.

Anyway, yeah, just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone who hasn't seen the lastest issue.

Deus Ex was 27?!

Stupid, stupid people. I demand it be in the top ten!

Where was Homeworld and Starcraft.

That is all I need to know to see the value of that list.

Oh, and Grim Fandango too.

Think you can post the entire list?

Which PC Gamer was that?

#1 in Swedish PC Gamer was Grim Fandango.
VTEC just kicked in, yo!

The worst part is that Deus Ex was #10 or so last time.

I can remember when Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II was near the top of that list. PC Gamer once stated that CTF was one of the main aspects that made JK so great, and I'd have to agree.

I was never a fan of Deus Ex.

the whole "Half-Life in the #1 spot" theme from the past 5 years is getting really old.
2005-03-16, 9:11 AM #14
half life deserved to be number one, i think. glad to see some of the ad&d stuff like baldurs gate was in it.

Doom in slot 2!!??!!!

No way... Duke3D has always been better than Doom in every way!

Oh well, at least the majority of my favorites are on that list.

How'd they come about creating this list? Was there a poll of somesort. If so, some of the voters might not of even been old enough to really played some of those games on the list. Not only that, but when you take into consider the sheer volumes of people who have come to the PC gaming world in just the last 3 years, of course they'd vote for the newer games they've actually played...

If it came from 1 person or a small group of people who were actually old enough to play all those games, then it doesn't account for very good statistical "sampling", IMO.

From my understanding, it's just a list based on the opinions of the PC Gamer staff.

Yes.

Deus Ex is 27. Half-life should not be 1. Doom or wolf3d should be.

X-com should be higher up.

Master of Orion should be MUCH higher up.

Sims should be higher up.

Starcraft should be lower.

Neverwinter nights should be higher.

Jedi Knight should be higher.

System Shock 2 should be MUCH higher.

Bah... I don't like your list, IMO I think:

Doom or Wolf3d can't be number one but definetly higher end.

X-Com definetly needs to be higher.

StarCraft shouldn't be lower, it definetly beats out other startegy games like WarCraft but should be tied with Diablo.

Everything else I agree with.

I thinkt hat list is about right, though I've never played doom. I have 13 of those in my possesion, which is cool. It's too bad that I can't play my DOS games anymore.

It's not their opinions, they actually have that seperate. They rated the games (and they've moved around some since last time) according to their effects on the gaming industry, and all around kickass-ness

Doom is number 2. It needs to be number 1.

Starcraft was ok, but it wasn't revolutionary. I much prefer Warcraft III. Total Annihilation should be close, if not better, than starcraft.

I love how Half-Life 2 is in the top 5...and Doom 3 isn't on the top 50...Yes indeed. I do love it. (Okay so Doom is on there, but not Doom 3 so HA!)

It's really funny, because DooM 3 has revolutionary lighting, and HL2 has revolutionary texturing.

Fancy that.

Whatever though, I don't want to start a D3 vs HL2 war or anything. My point that Deus Ex needs to be way up there still stands.

I don't think that HL2 deserved to be on that last. Seriously, besides the nice graphics, what's so revolutionary about it? Nothing.

THE ATMOSPHERE

Half-Life 2 deserved to be above Half-Life.

Where's counter-strike? Isn't it the most played multiplayer game of all time?

Starcraft was better than tides of darkness in every aspect.

Diablo 2 was better than Diablo in every aspect.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.
2005-03-16, 12:41 PM #34
Yeah I don't know why Diablo is on there as well as Diablo II.

2005-03-16, 1:41 PM #35
Civilization 2 and WC 2 are certainly where they should be. I gotta say I'd have expected NWN to be a bit higher. But I find it very cool the original Master of Orion is there. That game rocked when it was hot, so many years ago. But that's also a game that divided opinions pretty heavily.

This isnt the most influential games of all time, its the best, and simply, half life is better than doom.

I don't think Wolf3d should have a high place in any list.

The game that really did it for the first person shooter genre was Doom in my opinion.

DF/JK used to be #5 on the their list, making it the #2 first person shooter of all time. PC Gamer has been giving blow jobs to Valve since 1998, Half-Life being #1 doesn't suprise me. I'm not really sure what Half-Life did that no one else was about to do. Perhaps it was well done, but I don't recall anything particularly innovative, apart from maybe shooting down some enemy aircraft.
