Do you or do you not INVERT YOUR MOUSE
2005-03-21, 6:24 AM #1
Regarding your general FPS type games, do you invert your Y axis on your mouse?

The first FPS I played with a mouse was JK, and the default configuration was an inverted mouse. I've used it ever since. To me it emulates pulling back your head to look up, and pushing it forward to look down.

No inversion.

Started playing inverted in JK but at some time I changed or then changed back again and than back to uninverted, not really sure. I think that was because of Rebel Assault where some parts of the game are easier to play inverted and others not inverted.

Never. I hate inversion. When it's on I'm totally disoriented.

You freaks. I hate you all.

Invert for teh win. It's really funny, because it makes more sense.

Your mom is a stupid week read here post!

...

Seriously though, inversion does remind me of pulling my head to look up, and pushing it to look down, like the OP said.

If the mouse isn't inverted, then I feel completely disoriented.

I think the reason I can't use it is because of other computer related work. I'm used to pushing up on the mouse to move a cursor up on the screen. It makes sense to me to have that translate directly over to games.

And Glyde... I fly with a joystick, not a mouse ;)

I fly with a joystick too, but for a lot of games, I'm amazing to fly with a mouse. Espescially if they are indoor flying games like descent. Sadly, Descent can't make my mouse sensitive enough :X

No inversion to win.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I played inverted when I started JK, because I was young and naive and I thought that's how all games were. Then I started playing other games that didn't have inversion on by default, and I thought that was better, so I found the setting in JK and turned it off.

My brain is pretty adaptable though; I can switch from non-inverted to inverted with about 5 minutes of practise. Of course, then it takes another five minutes to switch back to non-inverted.

To Glyde Bane: I fly planes, and my preference for a non-inverted mouse hasn't caused me to crash yet.:p

Oh it will... It better, because I don't like talented people proving me wrong.

I don't know, because all the early FPS games I played had it on by default..

Yeah. Even in Metroid Prime Hunters Demo it's annoying because I'm used to aiming up when I move the thingy DOWN.

I used to invert it, but now I don't.

I remember playing StarFox on the SNES and not being able to cope with inversion: going back now I can't live without it!

Hate inverted for FPS, can work with it for flightsims (Starfox rawks) but for spacesims, like Babylon 5:IFH (this is the shiz. <3 Starfuries) I go with normal (NON-inverted).

I originally played inverted (JK, GoldenEye [I know not a mouse but same idea], Descent, probably some other games) but sometime around Counter-Strike 1.3 at my local Cyber Cafe it was always non-inverted by default, and having to change it every time I sat down was annoying so I just learned to play non-inverted. I think I even play things where you fly (not flight sims mind you, just when in a flying dealie like the hover planes in PlanetSide) with non-inverted now. Haven't touched a flight sim in years so not sure which I'd prefer.

I used to, not so much anymore. It just depends on what the default setting is, I usually stick to that.

Real gamers play inverted!
2005-03-21, 10:39 AM #38
I *cannot* use inverted. It just feels wrong.

When using a joystick i play inverted...but only to simulate realism in flying games :p

Inverted mouse for FPS's makes no sense. Move your mouse up to look up and down to look down. I cant see how anyone could have it any other way.
