Why would it be illegal? Its their product, they can do whatever the hell they want with it.

GBK, there are tons of servers who will stay loyal to linux. Take google for example.

Do a monster search for google and read the job description.

I know, Mystic, Im just pointing out that MS isnt limited by law in this case.

True, any sysadmin who is currently using Linux/Apache is very, very unlikely to switch to any MS-based crap any time soon. The developers will certainly not take kindly to the idea of having to get MS-approval for any program they write before they can release it.. So if sysadmins dont kill palladium, the developers will.

I can see it now... everybody will be plugged into Palidum. The linux users will be 'outside' the matrix, and Slashdot will be Zion. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

I've not heard about any of this paladium crap until now - and I'm not getting something - if everyone starts to use linux to get away from such crap (this is to do with the possibly made up fact that MS and Linux won't talk over the internet), then everyone will be on linux, MS will lose its monopoly and everyone will be happy...

I know there must be a problem with this, or else someone would have said it first...

I'm baffled!!

Martyn: Joe average wont understand palladium and wont bother learning about it and stick with windows.

Not everyone wants to bother learning how to use linux or a Mac

A lot of the palldium stuff will be implemented in hardware so unless you're using a "certified" OS or software, your usage of your computer will be pretty restricted, whether or not you use Windows, Linux etc.

I think that the non-windows OS market will definetly grow if palladium is introduced, but it will hardly destory MS basically because of what Evil_Giraffe said.

At least thats how I understand things. Feel free to correct me though.

sad but true.

After paladium becomes entrenched, i'm sure a lot of people are going to wish they'd kept their old computers.

I'm trying to learn linux now so i'll be ready in case the worst should happen and palladium takes over. That way, I won't be completely dependent on palladium, I'll still be able to work freely with people that are still running XP and other linux distros.

When we've been talking about beating Palladium, we've referred to only Linux so far. But what about Apple? Wouldn't they file a major lawsuit against M$ if all of a sudden their computers couldn't open Word documents, or view web pages? Or perhaps M$ would strike a very expensive deal with them to ensure they would not be affected?

Probably the second one I'd imagine...

I've got a trough of linux discs to try out on my new laptop (Geoff) should I feel the need - that'll keep me happy for a while!

In the meantime, XP's doing ok for me [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Well, MechWarrior 2 came out for the Mac. Guess I'll move over to apple when Palladium comes out. If it's good enough for MechWarrior 2, it's good enough for me.

at least there is one [obvious] thing we can be thankful for:

Linux will go to hell long before it ever goes TC, so we are far from screwed if TC takes over. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Well, does anyone else agree that those security measures are downright stupid? Within days there'll be stuff out to break it.
