There's only one thing wrong with RotJ, and that's the ewoks. If you ignore them, it's a great movie. Thus, it can be judged to be a fine movie overall.

In my opinion, RotJ gets WAY too much love. Especially if you watch it right after watching ESB. Where did the pacing go? My dislike of RotJ has nothing to do with Ewoks either. RotJ is basically "Starwars goes hollywood." It's like Richard Marquand would sit around and say "Hey, we havn't blown anything up for a little while in this script... let's have a chase sequence." I realize alot has to happen in the movie, but it's got way too much **** going on, and it's not well made at all. The effects are good, but other than that, it seems to lack the charm of ANH and the genius filmmaking of ESB.

Actually Marquand was basically a puppet, he did everything Lucas told him too and rarely took any creative licensing. It would have been much better if Steven Spielberg (who was originally going to direct) did it.

I just don't like ROTJ because its far too stale and bland. The film doesn't pick up until the last 20 minutes or so.

The FGR Reasons Why RotJ sucked:

1) The Empire lost. Well, actually, the thing what really annoys me is the way how they lost. Ewoks! Stones! Some bloody A-Wings! Ding a ling dong! Suddenly, a mighty Empire falls and everything's happy happy yay woot! The Empire seems kinda clumsy and lame opponent throughout the Original Trilogy, though, which is why RotS could rank pretty high in my list, judging by the stuff I've seen this far, where the Empire kicks *** and hard. Mm.

2) That's about it.

This "reason RotJ sucked" is flawed:

Making a lightsaber is not easy. At all. You have to find the chrystals for it, plus a bunch of other force attuned things you gotta do. At least that's what I heard. Do you think that if all it took was knowing a few crappy electronics things, then maybe a few more people than skilled Jedi would have lightsabers?

Though you have to remember Han Solo was right: a lightsaber is not a very good weapon for anybody but a Jedi (or a Sith). Not counting "peaceful" uses like forcing a door open, a force insensitive person with a lightsaber facing a person with a blaster would end up just like that sword master in the classic Temple of Doom scene.

This also reduces the number of lightsabers.
