You People Rock. (browser stats)

Here is the breakdown of Massassi browser usage:

1 47.48% MSIE 6.0
2 41.30% Mozilla/5.0
4 1.68% Opera 7.2
6 1.36% Opera 7.5
8 0.59% MSIE 5.0
9 0.59% Opera 8.0
11 0.48% MSIE 5.5
12 0.26% MSIE 5.2
13 0.25% Mozilla/3.01 (compatible;)

I left out the search engine bots/spiders.

I am really surprised, over 45% of our users are using a non-microsoft browser. That is really good :) Now if only everyone would switch.
2005-04-26, 11:23 PM #2
yes yes we know.

You IE users should be ashamed of yourselves.
2005-04-26, 11:26 PM #3
over 45%? Does MSIE not stand for Microsoft Internet Explorer? That is the only one over 45%

Add the NON IE up ;)

But what about the folks who are satisfied with their Microsoft browser? :(

(mind ye, I be using Opera, but still...)
The answer is maybe.

I can't believe that many people still use IE. We'll have them convert... you'll see.

I'm one of the 47.48% AND I AM NOT ASHAMED.

Really, what's the big deal? All browers do the same thing anway, and IE already comes integrated into Windows.... makes sense to me.

[edit: Isn't it a bit weird that Netscape isn't on that list? One of the (very few) things that I learnt at (my brief stint with) university was that in America most people use Netscape, whereas in Europe most you Internet Explorer.]

All browsers do the same thing, and some MORE! ;)

Such as browsed tabbing.
Such as better menus
Such as more options
.. :) Which makes it better. So I use it.

Depends how long ago you were at university. Netscape became Mozilla. I assume anyone still using a Netscape branded browser would come under the "Mozilla/3.01 compatible" category. Also, if that stat came from before the "browser wars" then it will be even more out of date. IE totally decimated the support of Netscape, which was the main reason it got reinvented as Mozilla.

Erm, Netscape became Mozilla, for the most part.

it's really a matter of preference AKP. the tabbed browsing and lack of true integration with windows is why i use firefox.

No, NOT all browsers do the same thing, and to think that is pure ignorance. Firefox makes it incredibly easier to browse websites, and is much, much more secure. Finally, it's not open to spyware (there's literally 3 spyware programs for Firefox, as opposed to over 10k for IE).

And on top of that, its hella faster on my laptop, displays websites much more to standards, and doesn't crash as often. Not to mention extensions make the world go round.

Firefox has FAR less popups. It is succeptible to FAR LESS spyware. It is succeptible to FAR fewer virus attacks.

If you like your computer, you'd use something non-IE. It's ceased to be just a browser, and started to be a matter of the security of your computer.

Ok then,

Jeeez, get some perspective. It's just a computer.

But for the record, since SP2 i've had no spyware or popup issues in IE that haven't also occurd in Firefox.

Actually, IMO I don't see anything wrong with my IE, used it since I ever got a computer, hell I tried Firefox and those for a while, and I came back to IE.

But in my experience, Firefox loads pages much faster than IE does. Everytime I have to use IE for some reason I start to wonder why it's taking so long.

i'm i firefox user also but have to use IE sometimes because there are still some sites out there, (although they are decreasing) that don't play ball with firefox...

plus as Det just said, I haven't had one popup with IE since SP2 + recent updates, and although I still like Firefox better, IE, security wise, does seem to be making some, if limited, progress.

If the same percentage of people used firefox as IE, I bet within a couple of months the amount of spyware being able to attack firefox would increase, IE is exposed to a hell of a lot more than firefox and is often used by less experienced users, give it a break...

I only use firefox because of the extensions, ability to change the theme, tabbed browsing, quick fixes to bugs and supposed better security.

Me neither. In fact, the only Spyware issues I've ever had have come from P2P programs.

Yes, perhaps I am (blissfully) ignorant, but what I don't understand is how browsing can be easier. A website is a website, no matter what browser you use.

The Firefox extensions system can sometimes be a bit irritating, because there's no standard and no integration, and the whole thing can feel a bit ugly. You're not really using one program, you're using a Frankenstein combination of lots of little programs.

It'd be really nice if Firefox itself did a whole lot more, and that extensions did stuff more 'behind the scenes' like, and Firefox provided the output.

I used to have problems with loading some images in IE so I started using firefox. Now that I have a new computer that works fine I just use IE.

I use IE and have no problems. Never crashes, no pop-up's, and no spyware (as I check for them relatively often).

I enjoy Firefox because it isn't bloated, and I can DL things as I need them. I've not had any problems with the extension system. As long as you watch the ratings on extensions, you should be fine.

i had no idea Netscape became Mozilla......but netscape sucked so badly compared to IE...but now firefox is awesome...i think i'm getting a headache.

I really like Firefox because of Tabbed browsing, and the ammount of extensions there are for it.

It terms of security, I think the main difference between Firefox and IE is that whenever a bug or secerity hole is discovered, Mozilla fixes it in the next release, and if it is urgent, like the last problem they just found, they will make a new release almost immediatly. Whereas it took Microsoft until SP2 to came out to fix some of IE's problems.

Tabbed browsing rocks. I don't have to run multiple instances of the same browser just to be at multiple websites.
