Valve's HDR video.

Yeah, it does seem excessive.

Well, maybe it's because the guy is in a shaded area at the moment. You know how when you look out a window on a sunny day, it seems overbright and blinding, even if you are looking out on grass and dirt? Maybe that's just it. It also seems really dark when you go back inside after your eyes adjust to the outside brightness, then they adjust to the indoor brightness.
DO NOT WANT.

Movie wasn't that impressive. You'd think 170 megs for really high quality would at least warrant some decent footage.... it was alright I guess .'/

It looks good, but wasn't worth my time and effort to d/l the damn movie.

Agh! People! The glow isn't over done. There was an article about this in PC Gamer. When you are in a dark room and you walk outside it looks REALLY bright at first. Or try this. Get a camera and look at the sky with it. Then look down really fast. Notice it's blindingly white for a second before it adjusts. Light pretty much works like that picture shows, we just don't notice as much.
Think while it's still legal.

Yes, it is overdone. It shouldn't look liked someone freakin upped the gamma with like a glow wrapping around architecture like that. It doesn't look like real life at all.

Sure it does. You'd only see that for a second or two. It isn't like total blindness for ever.
Think while it's still legal.

I still think it's overdone and looks like utter crap.

I find it hilariously ironic that you defend the HDR to the death. It IS overdone, as HDR always is, in that pic. Things seem bright, but not washed out. There's a difference.

I'm not. I'm just sick of people trashing it, when it's actually realistic and not overdone at all.

...in other words, your defending its 'realism'?

I personally think it can look really good, but that picture is an example of how it can also look REALLY bad and horribly overdone. For another example, play FarCry on an ATi X800 card with the 1.3 patch :p

you won't be getting HDR in farcry with an X800 noob

and i can't remember where but i remember reading that for demonstration purposes in that video the HDR was exaggerated a bit

6800 I meant. Bleh, whatever. HDR mode 7 is just insanely overdone.

I still demand to know why I'm on the list.

I want to go spend 500$ right now so I can make my games all glowy!

I want my name on the list...

That map looks nice, but I'm afraid I'm too lazy to download the video.
