Where I come from, when I was growing up, parents spanked their kids. At least mine did. None of this psychological warfare stuff. By the time we were too old to be spanked anymore, there was no need. We were mature enough that a good talking to sufficed.

As far as I'm concerned, grounding a kid for a week does nothing but keep that kid angry for a week. It's not superior to corporal punishment in any way.
