Trailer
I love the epic music. Although the werewolf thing is rather change...

I was blown away, definately the Zelda I hoped for. Has a real feel of the past ones, with a much darker edge. I was in awe when you see him turn into the wolf. I'm preordering today.

Everything was awesome.

EXCEPT THE WOLF. WTF!? Do you NEED to gimmick Zelda with each new game now? First we get a horrible cel-shade game, now we get a warewolf gimmick thrown onto the game? And what's with the little... freaky thing? NO. WTF are you doing to Link? WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? That could have EASILY been some other random crap platforming game on the NR, instead they're cramming it into a perfectly good zelda game.

And those of you who are going to say: "You haven't played it yet.." are right. But guess what, just as others are going to say "OMG KEWL NEW ZELDA!" I'm going to make an assessment of what I HAVE seen, and say that the wolf gimmick will probably ruin the game for me.

Windwaker isn't only the BEST looking Zelda game that has been released, it's also the most fun Zelda game.
Think while it's still legal.

HAH!!!!!!! Oh man. I've seen cel-shade pulled off 'artistically.' Windwaker was NOT artistic... at all. Same with that one side-scrolling button masher. I'm sorry nintendo-fan-boys, but 'different' != cool and exciting. blocky characters with cartoony expressions and the whole crap kiddy theme WindWaker had was NOT good looking. Ever played Kingdom Hearts? Dark Cloud 2? ZEO? These games did Cel-shading well. Windwaker and Viewtiful Joe showed us how it should NOT be done.

I wouldn't go that far, but I definately agree it isn't a crappy game by far, nor do I think it was gimmicky. I do agree that the idea of Link turning into a werewolf seems unsettling, as well as the whole techy-looking thing(s)... but I'm also one to be worried about the whole 'dark' image too. We'll have to see.

Hey kirb... Just wondering, but what about the Cel-Shading on Wild ARMs 3? It was more cartoony than Kingdom Hearts, but there were still explosions and stuff. :x

>.< What?! Zelda is what made cel-shading awesome. The artwork in that game was amazing.

I can't vouch for wildarms 3 since I never played it. I have, however, seen it played, and it's definetly not on a crappy level with viewtiful joe or anything, I don't know. It's certainly not bad.

I'm def' going to have to agree with sajn. Windwaker was a gorgeous game. Although Ocarina was more fun, I think. Anyway, does anyone know how much of the gameplay is made up of the warewolf bit? I see that there is a wolf's image on the new 'logo'. So it may be quite alot...

Zelda games have always had gimmicks, and it's not like this is the first time the game's gimmick has had you change into things. Remember Majora's Mask?

Also, Wind Waker is the only Zelda game I've ever finished. More than that, I'm playing through it again now. The only other game I've ever done that with is Metal Gear Solid.

If you think the sailing took too long, I wonder, did you know about the warp song?

Also, the engine is so powerful in Wind Waker it's pretty much the same engine they are using for the new zelda with only some modifications.

is it possible he's a wolf because he's in the dark-world?

I'm really not digging the little monster thing and Link's werewolf transformation.
2005-05-18, 3:50 AM #17
The textures for the castle part aren't too good. And some animations of Link seem stiff. (like the part when he pulled out the sword.)

Also, it was stated (I believe) that Nintendo is planning to remake Wind Waker without the cel-shaped look.

You just called Viewtiful Joe crappy. Your opinion is null and void.

Also--THE PLOT THICKENS!

And Echo--I think those are just rumors.

I think the little monster thing is the Twilight Princess.

If that's true, I'm getting this game.

I whole-heartedly disagree here. Windwaker had some cool combat moves and at least one very cool dungeon, but overall it was a bore. The ocean/sailing part was completely boring, the graphics for the most part were yawn, and it didn't have the whole zelda exploration feel that the old ones had.
2005-05-18, 9:26 AM #22
That trailer looked cool. Of course zelda always has a gimmick, that's part of what makes it new and interesting each time (or new and crappy each time depending on the game). I'm looking forward to playing this.

I really hope that's the case. It would definately be a very good reason for the transformation, for one. I could see Link entering the dark world for the first time and transforming, and requiring that thing's assistance to get the moon orb or a similar item to regain his normal shape (or, more likely, an item that allows the transformation to be voluntary, like a mask from Majora's Mask).

It would be very sweet to have a 3-D dark world in any case.

Some of it looked cool, but some things, like the werewolf and the "digital" enemies look dumb.

You guys do know what this is based on right?

Twilight Princess is a manga in Japan where the guy turns into a wolf at night, and the girl turns into a hawk during the day. Tragic love story, all that.

I didn't really consider the fact that he could be in the dark world. That makes it BETTER, but still, the little thing riding link is stupid, and I'm more than willing to believe you'll be that stupid wolf for a good portion of the game. That's not cool.

And for the record, Majora's Mask was... eh, in my opinion. Not bad, just not all that engaging. The masks were a total gimmick and really took a lot away from the game for me.

Oh, and brian's right. Even the gameplay suffered in WW. The sailing was boring, the game was repetative, and felt very platformy, and YES. NO exploration like former Zeldas. It was more like some action arcade game than an action RPG.

Doesn't change the fact it looks dumb.

And I guess that explains the hawk we see too...

Thats not SO tragic... she just has to get used to doggie style...

Literally..

That sounds like the plot from that '80s movie Ladyhawke (it had Matthew Broderick in it). It was a decent flick, if I recall. I don't remember. The 1980s were a long time ago.

OK, I just saw the trailer.

Umm... is this game having a cross over with Tron, or what? What's with the enemies from the blocky 4 colour universe? And why, when they die, does it look just as stupid as in Wind Waker? Isn't this supposed to be more "realistic"? Realism isn't defined solely by the number of colours your textures have...

It looks interesting, still. At least there might be actual exploration this time, unlike Wind Waker...

all the new zelda games from ocarina of time have had gimmics.

OoT: time travel
MM: masks and transformations
Oracle series: two games that connect to form one big adventure
WW: controling the wind and sailing (the celshading is not a gimmick
