And don't forget about Link's Awakening. Your entire quest is a dream
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

ALL GAMES have a freaking gimmick. THATS HOW GAMES SELL COPIES, by attempting to be DIFFERENT from other games while staying the same.

I fail to see what you're all on about.

He just needs something to ***** about, nothing new.

Anyways, on the whole werewolf thing, I would've prefered it if Link would turn into a more 'traditional' werewolf, in the sense that it has a human like posture. Kind of like the ones in "Underworld". That would've made Link beyond bad-***!

Of course, Oni-Link in Majora's Mask was pretty bad ***.

Zelda 2 had a gimmick, it was a side-scroller!

Leaving just the first one that had no gimmick...

OK:
- WW was not cel-shaded, it was a cartoony look that was ALMOST cel-shaded. Kirbs, you can't compare the game to a goal which it never aimed for. I myself enjoyed the game.
- If the new games didn't have a "gimmick" then it would only be a rehash of the older games, and there would be little point in playing it. There would be many angry fans.

Q: It looks like animals play a very strong role in the game. Will we see much of this in the E3 version?

A: Well as you've seen, Link himself can transform into a wolf when he is pulled into the Twilight (a kind of dark world environment). And when Link becomes the wolf he'll be able to communicate with other animals. He'll then be able to learn things that he wouldn't be able to in his original human form. Using the wolf's abilities to help progress the game was one of the big themes of this project.

Taken from the Gamespy, "The Legend of Zelda Roundtable." Good read for those who want to check it out. (Linky)

Also, my favorite Zelda game (from the 2 I've played), is the Wind Waker. I still can't find out what makes OoT so good. I borrowed the GCN version of it from someone, and I still haven't beaten it (I'm at the Water temple I believe). But I can't find out what makes it such a great game. I enjoyed the Wind Waker so much more. /shrug

Or maybe I just think a complete shift in gameplay isn't exactly a 'good' gimmick. It looked platformy. And the thing riding you just plain makes it like some banjo-kazooi knockoff, as the entire last generation of platformers has been.

Well, ever since the series went 3D there's been a distinct platformer element in the games. I really didn't see anything in the video that indicates a "complete shift in gameplay." Really, The Legend of Zelda has stayed pretty close to its adventure/hack and slash roots since the beginning, with the exception of the second game, of course.
