ahahahahahahahaha... what insolence.

Too bad she was a woman of color, though, it tends to complicate things like this. :\

Her wailing is definitely all "please someone pay attention to me! where's a videocamera? Rodney King!"

Granted, it might have made sense to her that she was telling someone that she was detained and where she was so people wouldn't worry, but in that situation where someone's screaming at you with a mounted taser, just say "COPS: GOTTA GO" and hang up.

I didn't realize the cops had the power to tell you to get off a cell phone to begin with. I mean, they can't just tell you to do ANYTHING THEY WANT - for example if they told you to take off your clothes you would be like, wtf? I hate this idea that they can freaking taze you simply because you refused to get off your phone. I think it's all bogus and that guy should be fired and put in jail.

I think it's because she was speeding or some such.

Didn't she try to swing at one of the officers?

Anyways, those taser licence test hurts apparently. My Kyoshi, who is also a cop, had to take that test to use a taser. He says that the firing of that gun and all of a sudden you drop to the ground is the hurtfull/scary part, but the taser it's self wasn't all that bad.

She was a big baby. I'd say she got what she deserved. That was pretty funny. :p

I have to agree with Brian. Cops are using tasers like they are harmless toys! There have been quite a few cases where the taser has killed someone, so a cell phone is a stupid thing to use potential deadly force over. At the very least, it should have been limited to a fine for disobeying the police. It isn't like the cops were in any danger where they had to defend themselves, though they tried to make it seem that way with a bogus comment they made knowing they were on camera. A suspended license? What a crock, I hope someone splatters that cops brains acrossed the street over something equally trivial as that cop doesn't seem to have any problem putting peoples lives at risk over trivial stuff. (At the very least, I hope she wins her court case and they lose their jobs, but that would only be acceptable in a civilized world).

I might actually like to try getting tazed, just to see what it's like.

Then use my ego to combat it, and scare the crap out of cops when they taze me.

Yeah, you have to be Tazered to be licensed to used one. Same with mace, and Pistol Whipping I think.

The only thing self-defencive wise where you don't have to have it applied to you, is being shot.

It looks like he told her to get off her phone, opened the door and drew his taser when she refused, and didn't fire until after she tried kicking and punching and trying to slam her car door on the cop.

But I don't know. I don't have sound, and if this is a huge American news story... well... I don't care about the same worthless crap Fox News does, so I don't know about it.

Ok, now we're going to show you what it's like to be shot, so you'll only need to use it if the person deserves it.

She was being arrested. The video begins after the officer has already checked the license, and found that it was suspended. By refusing to turn off her cell phone and exit the vehicle, she was resisting arrest.

Reguardless, she was no threat to them and they could have waited rather than meeting the situation with excessive force.

[edit] I don't really care if the cops have to be tasered before they can use it. If anything, that makes them feel like they have the right to use it for whatever reason they see fit. Just because he was molested as a child, doesn't mean that he should molest his kids and taser people [/edit]

What would that lesson be? Be Black and disobey a cop and you'll get assualted pretty quick? Or maybe race played no issue and they are the same cops that tasered that grade-school student? Oh wait, he was Black too. These aren't issues over merely breaking the law, these cops saw an oppertunities to be excessive and took it based on race.

Even if race wasn't the case, it's still not good that cops are using potentially lethal tasers excessively, and to top it off, on women and children as well.

What if this happened to your mom, sister, or girl friend as they were trying to explain the situation to you? Would it still be as amusing? Would you still be thinking "The cops really taught her a lesson" as you heard her screaming on the other end? No, you would probably contemplate grabbing your gun, driving to the scene, and putting a few pigs out of their misery. Then, you would probably chicken out and just be a witness when she sues.

This is not something to take lightly, this is police brutality, and it can happen to anyone (including you and your family), reguardless of race (though, white cops have been known to be agressive on black suspects and vice versa). Cops have bad days too, only difference is they have tasers and a license to kill.

The officer was more than justified to do what he did. By the way Nesseight, quit acting like being tazered is such a big deal, because it's not. The woman was just a huge baby about it.

I don't think that the cop in this clip really acted too far out of line, but seriously, what if the woman was in early pregnancy, or epileptic or something? 50,000 volts could seriously **** things up. The cops should be using a more reasonable level of restrain.
2005-06-02, 5:21 PM #25
OK. She looks like she's overreactingUBERBIGMEGAtime. I mean, initially, I can understand, but about a minute into it? It's not like she was bloody shot or anything. And a little after that, it starts sounding forced. And then she should be shot for being a prat.

If she'd have just got out the bloody car, none of it would have happened. Or, better still, not have driven at all.

Educate yourself before you address me.
If a taser kills one out of one million people, it's still too many. When a cop uses a weapon as his first option in any situation, he should lose his badge on the spot as he's too stupid to have one.

She was not trying to overreact, she was panicing. Some women do this when they are put in a stressful situation that a man would be able to handle calmly.

Being tazed hurts a hell of a lot. I have a video of my friend (who thinks he is a tough guy) being tazed. I'll upload it and post it. It's quite amusing. He's a senior in military academy, and went to a friend's pad in Florida over Easter break. The friend's father is a cop, and was carrying a tazer on his belt after arriving home from duty. My friend, being a "tough guy", asked to see what it was like to be tazed... the rest will be shown in the video.
2005-06-02, 6:05 PM #28
Eh, it doesn't really "hurt". It's more of a huge numbing feeling. It's definitely not something you can stand there and take though no matter how "tough" you are cause the voltage just makes your muscles go dead for an instant almost.

The sound they make along with the arc is pretty damn intimidating though, heh.

She could have listened without a problem. It's her own fault and he was justified to do as he wished. Just because its a black woman doesn't make it any different than any other person. It's her own fault for not doing the simple thing of getting off the phone and getting out of the car.

Lets see...Nope no proof there. And it was more than 10 seconds. In fact...

"Put your cigerette out and step out of the vehicle for me. Put your phone down."

"No I'm calling somebody."

BAM! Resisting arrest right there. Eat me.

"I'm gonna tell you one more time, put your phone down."

"Mark, the police pulled me over. And he's telling me that he's gonna arrest me. *opens door*He's arresting me. Stop, don't touch me. The police man...you're gonna shoot me, he's got a gun and he's gonna shoot me."

Right about now you should realize you better do wtf the cop is telling you to do. BTW it was 20 seconds before he pulls it.

"Get out of the car now, or I am going to tase you. Get out of the car now, or I am going to tase you. I'm gonna tell you one more time."

"You're gonna tase me?"
UM YEAH HE HAS IT POINTED AT YOU IDIOT.

"I'm gonna tell you one more time, get out of the car. GET OUT OF THE CAR OR I AM GOING TO TASE YOU."

35 seconds he begins tasing.

I think he gave her plenty of warning.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

You could say the same thing about there being no evidence that the Rodney King incident was based on race, but it's an accepted fact.

It seems from your choice of words that you even have some doubt on whether or not race was a motive, completely, or partially.

Doesn't a cop have to actually place someone under arrest before they can claim that they were resisting it? Also, the cops parents should have taught him that it's not polite to talk to someone while they are talking on the phone.

I'd have tasered her too.

You know back in the old days it was "Get off the phone and get out" and when you didn't they forced you out HARD and put THEMSELVES at risk from attack.

Now they can EASILY arrest a person without any harm to themselves.

And i'll tell you what...when I'm doing something stupid I'd rather be tazed than hit with a billy club.

And as for not bothering people when their on the phone...I work at a grocery store, when people come through the lines on their phones I make it my business to "bother" them by telling them how much their order is, or asking them questions I need to ask.
If they DON'T answer me or give me a "what?!" in a tone I dont' like then I repeat it LOUDER and give a disgruntled look of my own.
When I'm trying to do my job I don't give a **** what YOU want to do. You're here in MY store and I'm trying to help you and the 20 other people waiting behind you as you talk on your phone.

Just because you own a cell phone doesn't make you invisible to the world and doesn't give you a license to ignore everything around you.

Her liscence was expired.

He was placing her under arrest.

She knew her liscense was expired.

She was resisting arrest.

Cops are 100% on the edge, EVERY stop they make. They don't know what the crap kind of crazy crap people are going to pull.

She swung.

Assualting an officer is a serious crime.

Assualting someone, who's on the edge, ready to react to anything is stupid.

She got tazed.

I fail to see why this is a huge freaking deal.

And yes, Tazers can be lethal. But I'm sure had it been a man, he would have just YANKED her from the car. However, seeing as it's a woman... and we have these weird BS unwritten laws regarding getting physical with a woman, so he gave her the tazer.

QFT.

Nesseight, you are making it appear those 2 white cops beat on her cause she is a black female. Maybe they are homosexuals and they beat on her because she was female? Maybe they are married to black women? YOU DO NOT KNOW.

I had a coworker accused of racism by a black woman. My coworker took a PHOTO OF HER BLACK FIANCEE and shoved it in the black woman's face and said "This is my fiancee, who I sleep next to every night. Now tell me I am racist."

You can NOT tell based off a video that this was based on race or gender bias. That woman had SEVERAL warnings and was being way over dramatic. After you get tazed, the effects go away. She was being over dramatic, and the cops even said so when they said "We've been tazed before." You do not know these cops. They might have a history of beating on black suspects, or they might not. Until you know the FACTS don't come here screaming racism.

I would have tasered her too, if she kept putting up a fight after she was done on the phone, I would have gave her some time to finish telling whoever it was she was talking to that she was being arrested, as opposed to "This badge makes me God, get out now or we get to see what this new experimental weapon can do to you.

Then again, I would actually have my hand on my gun as I would never allow myself to go through the taser test, enabling me to use a taser. That doesn't mean I would shoot her if she didn't stop talking, though.

I'm not saying that your assessment of the video is wrong, I am only saying that mine is right.
