If Batman was a kid during the depression, I would think he would be a lot older...

I hope that's sarcasm. The depression of Gotham in the film is not supposed to be the real life Great Depression our world sufferred.

As a kid, I remember thinking the film was so dark, and scary etc etc. It was easily the best Batman out of all of them. However on this viewing, I have completely changed my mind. Begins is the definitive Batman movie.

The first film was dark. Returns was a little too dark in a wierd way. The new film is darker. I would agree that it is the "definitive" Batman film as it does the best job introducing why he's Batman. It just doesn't do everything better than the '89 version. IMO

The aspects of gotham/batman/wayne in 1 were taken to another level with Begins. The acting was much better, save for Nicholson, who I never get tired of. I wouldn't have his version of the Joker in a Begins trilogy, but for the original he was perfect. Keaton was decent, but as Batman he was boring. Bale inhabited the suit, the mask, and was a scary SOB.

I think Keaton's acting was fine but I did like the very scary way Bale interogated a thug. Really I think all of the actors that have portrayed Wayne and Batman have done pretty good. The difference is all in the directors. I think this movie had the best combination of director and actor. The other actors simply don't have what it takes to pull the role off again anyway and the series needs fresh meat. I'm satisfied with Bale but I'll always enjoy Keaton's Batman. I hope they get the Joker right in this next film. Burton sure did.

The characters seemed more fleshd out with begins. For the first four movies, it seemed to me that essentially you had to go through a learning process with each character save alfred.

The only character in the previous films that got a decent intro was Robin. Personally, I hope they leave him out of any planned new films. He is completely unnecessary. And I disagree with previously posted views that this new Alfred is the best yet. He's fine but I liked the old Alfred.

And of course, this movie was focused on Batman, not the villains as the first four had done. That's important, seeing as how the freaking story is about Batman.

I agree although I disagree with many that Nicholson stole the first Batman. His character was over the top but that's the Joker. Batman was always cool in that film.

Hollywood ruined a great start the last time around. Now that comic book movie standards have been set so high hopefully they'll stay on the right track.

I'm a HUGE Christopher Nolan fan, from Following, to Memento, to Insomnia, and to this movie, every one has been amazing to me.

This movie, I think, was his best. And, the best movie of the summer.

I saw episode 3 this summer, thereby closing the Star Wars series, and I still think Batman Begins was better.

Dark, Scary, Action packed, filled with comic references, filled with intellegent plot form, and most importantly, the best cast for Batman, ever.

Bale, Holmes, Neeson, Wantanabe (underused, but effective), Wilkinson, Oldman (BEST choice, ever, for Gordon), and Freeman, were all freaking exceptional, as was the Scarecrow guy, who, in my opinion, presented the most realistic Bat-villian ever. Freaked the spits out of my girlfriend, too.

Go see the movie, debate about how you think it's better or worse than the Burton one, but at the end of the day, we'll get another kick *** Batman movie....in three years.

And the waiting Begins.

Danny Deveto would have to come back and do penguin again if he were ever a villian again. I'm sorry, but Dany IS the penguin. There's no denying it.

A lot of you don't know, but batman IS my ORIGINAL fanboyism. I've loved batman the longest. Last time I had my collection priced, it was something like 1200 dollars. I've got 1st edition comic books, first release action figures, signed posters, everything. It goes COMPLETELLY against all of my anti materialism philosiphy, but everyone has their lapses.

I will try and see this movie asap, seeing how you're all praising it like crazy.

By the way, second in line isn't starwars, either. It's a tie between X-men and Superman. Considering they've completelly abolished the storyline in the X-men movies, and the superman costume we've seen already is horrible, I hope they don't ruin my batman.

And starwars isn't even my 4th! It's spiderman, and yes, while the spiderman movies are interesting and well made movies, I completelly hate toby mcquire, as an actor and as spiderman and I hate how there's not even a shred of real cannon storyline in the movies.

Hopefuly batman isn't ruined either.

Kirby, X-Men for the win.

And... Maxis... why did you post that twice? Hmm.

There... I took care of it...

Kirby, you won't be disapointed with Batman Begins. After I first watched Batman Begins, I was torn... my brain was going crazy... I didn't even know they made movies like this still.... I am a big tim burton fan, and have LOVED all of his movies.... and I was having thoughts that this movies was better than burtons... i couldn't handle it.... Then I went back and watched the burton batmans, and realized how "Cartoonish" they were... more geared toward children.... I had never noticed that before... one of the lines that really kinda made me laugh was "Maybe Gotham can have a Merry Christmas for once" in batman returns... remembering how gotham was in Batman Begins.... it just seemed funny to me how much brighter Burton's baman movies were.

Burton's Batmans were far from childish. Cartoony satire, maybe, but certainly not childish.
