There was a Star Wars fan site called the Massassi Temple a while back, but their name was simply a coincidence.

btw, if anyone here decides to troll or invade this forum, they will be banned from here. Not that I think any of you would do that, but I'm just saying it now so that everyone has fair warning.

That's what I would do. Contact the host about stealing the image.

My favorite forum is the one with the description that says "satanism, the occult, self mutilation... talk about it.". It's so nice to know that after I get done discussing the latest Mario game in the "Nintendo" forum, I can just scroll up 3 forums and talk about how I like to cut myself and worship Satan.

Definitely see about the banner. Other than that, meh. Take it as a compliment.

I dont think we'd even have a case with the banner guys. For one, they aren't making money off it, and its not like we even came up with the name "Massassi" ourselves. There really isnt anything that prevents anyone from taking an image off of one website and putting it on another... even if that image is a logo.

Like Zecks said, just take it as a complement and dont worry about it.

it's the prinicpal of the matter, someone worked on that image, made that image for massassi and proudly displayed it on this site for years, then some kid steals the image without asking or even caring and uses it as his own and does not give credit or at least say somewhere "thanks to massassi temple for the banner" or something.

it's plagerized and it's not really a compliment.

Before you do this, I suggest you read what I said in my first post.

Its not plagarism. Plagarism is when you take credit for some one else's work.

There is no legal precedent that I am aware of that preventing them from using the logo on their site, and they surely arent making money off it either, in which case we might have something to go with. I'm sure if someone copied and pasted a bit of html code that was written specifically for this site, no one would care... in fact I bet a lot of people have done this, not just with Massassi but other sites. You see something you'd like to have on your site, so you view the source and copy and paste it.

Anyways, so what if they want to use it? Good for them. It makes their website look slightly better and lord knows they could use the help. And we should be flattered that they think the logo is cool. Heck, if we're all going to be so set about getting the logo removed, maybe one of us with artistic talent should offer to design a unique logo for them.

it's stolen work, intellectual property, the point remains that the logo was created for massassi and someone else took the image and are using it as their own logo without permission.

talk to sean howard of squidi.net, he's dealt with people who he claims has stolen his work and claimed them as their own, this banner was taken from this site and therefore is stolen.

I sent the forumers staff a note about how they have stolen our copyrighted material, hopefully they will take it down. And in regards to "stealing" the name from "Jedi Knight" I can tell you for a fact that the word "massassi" is never used in the original trilogy or dark forces or jedi knight. I got it from the trilogy of books where luke starts a Jedi Academy. Sure they mention it in later games, but the site existed before that

You don't have to claim something for your own in order to break copyright law. Just by using it, regardless of whether they are making any money, they are breaking copyright law.

Then how do websites like something awful get away with the numerous so called "copyrighted" images they post on their site? SA recieves numerous legal threats each year, but none of them are ever successful. Is it just because they are protected by being a parody website, or is it because no lawer is going to waste time taking a case that involves a website?
