Um... Wouldn't that be.. yesterday?

That's the date the summer 2004 release was confirmed, unless I'm missing something.

Um, huh? That was yesterday. Why would they announce it was gold AFTER it was available?

I have no interest for Doom 3. I hope Quake 4 uses the engine better. Doom3 has cheesey graphics, and lots of low poly models with high-end lighting and then polybumping out the wahoo.

EBGames claims Doom 3 will be released 6/15/2004

You realize that an indoor horror game like Doom III is exactly the type of game the engine would be good for?!

I'm looking forward to both HL2 and Doom III. You know, you can like more than one of them. They're 2 completely different types of games.

Yah, I want both.

I have no problem with Doom 3 not appealing to someone, maybe it's not your genre, but to say that it's graphics suck, or are CHEESY is like desecrating the bible in a southern Baptist church. You die.

The hell with that. There was something that just came to me. I hope seriously that they have a good soundtrack in DooMIII... The Alpha had no music. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

All these games have all these fancy features, but I think Doom III will do the best job of integrating them into every aspect of the game. For example, John Carmack said in an interview that if a feature is used, it should be used consistantly throughout the entire enviroment. For example, in Doom III, every surface has a bump map. As for the screenshots looking like plastic, I think someone once said that the reason for that was the gamma was cranked up way too high. In addition, the game looks exponentially better in motion, especially when you take into account the dynamic lights acting on the (universally used) bump maps.

No doubt that Half Life 2 will be good as well, but the two games are not very comparable.

Release dates huh?

Believability factor = -10.

I'm long past caring about Doom or Half life. I used to get excited about news but now, meh.

Yah, Doom 3 is NOTHING like any other game id has ever made. It's almost pure singleplayer, though there is the multiplayer element, and it is set different, with different music and setting. It's a horror game, not a true-to-form FPS. Duh.

Holy crap! Jim is really Uma Thurman!

Eh, DOOM 3 doesn't really seem like like it has enough of a story behind it. But, it is basically just supposed to be a showcase for the engine, so I guess I should expect it as such.

I don't understand why people are bashing the Doom III game. I think it makes excellent use of the engine.

Edit: I didn't mean Doom II...

People are bashing Doom III because id has a horrible history of making games with no decent plotline. id makes engines, and then license it out for others to make games...
