Poll: Beer or Hard Stuff?
2005-07-04, 2:42 PM #41
I can always go for a good Schwarzbier. I do like brandy, Obstbrand, whiskey, and a number of other liquors/liquers, though. I just find beer more worth it, though, especially at a bar, where drink prices can go to absurd levels. The other night, some friends and I went out, and at this one place downtown (Alexanderplatz), they were selling mixed drinks for about 7€, cheapest.

Pssh, no. Then she's raiding your fridge for a beer instead of hording a supply of her own stuff in your fridge.

Beer sucks. Vodka and rum are the only things worth my time.

Haha, which is why Arianrhod is, indeed, the best person ever to get drunk with. :D

I went with beer, but why isn't there a 'both' option?

I said beer, but I also enjoy wine. I just bought a 24 of Sleeman Honey Brown yesterday, and I'm having a ball:) .

Every time I try hard liquor, I regret it. Beer tastes good, hard liquor tastes like poison, and it always gives me the worst hangovers.

I like hard liquor much more (seems to go with being a lightweight), but I find myself drinking beer more often. Vote hard stuff.

Why isn't there a "none" option?

My girlfriend hates beer. :(

I like wine.

I would go for hard drinks>beer cause of rum!
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I don't know, probably because this thread is for people who like liquor and not so people can lord their "superior morality" over others.

Keep your edge, mang. Or somesuch.

Everclear. No hangovers.

But you have to mix it with something.

I know a guy who lit that **** on fire, and then tried to drink it. Needless to say he burnt his mouth so he spit it all over the couch which then in turn lit the couch on fire, but he stomped it out.

I'd love to get my hands on some REAL absinthe.

haha. Come to Canada then. It shouldn't taste any different than absinth subsitute for mixed drinks, though.

80% alc/vol, plus an active ingredient that acts like a very weak marijuana. If you prepare it probably it becomes a very sweet, very good-tasting 40-55% smooth liqueur. Very, very good tasting. Of course it also causes brain damage if you drink too much.

I really shouldn't be in this thread but...
:em321:

Does Schnapps count as hard stuff?
Because if it does, that's where my vote is.

Green Apple ftw.

Beer. But in order for me to drink enough to get trashed off it I need to play a drinking game that requires me to chug a beer if I lose.

Hahhaha. It's strong stuff. First time I had it I tried a straight shot of it and my mouth went numb for a few.

A "both" option is indeed needed, as is an option for wine.

Wine is mostly a California thing, its not as popular in other places.

I would place it somewhere inbetween beer and hard liquor, since wine is about 17% alcohol, way more than beer, but not as much as other kinds of booze.

Yeah, they don't drink wine in Europe at all. It's a California thing.

I shared a $5 bottle of wine with my roommate on the last day of school. It tasted absolutely horrible.
2005-07-07, 8:26 AM #68
you really gotta be lucky or experienced to get a good wine (especially if you're not californian), my dad can somehow do it, he can get £3 wines that taste great, when the reality is that every 1 in 7000 £3 wines taste great, he is just a wine freak.
2005-07-07, 8:31 AM #69
Maybe you could try this with cheap wine:

Charles Shaw: $2 a bottle and quite good stuff. Of course, I don't think you can get it anywhere but here in California.

The trick with cheap wine is finding a decent bottle then going back to the store and buying all that you can of that type of wine.
