I want this car
2005-07-04, 9:13 PM #1
Well the dealer told me they had a Grand Prix GTP and when I went up there it turned out to be a GT. So I resorted to internet searching and found on my favorite Grand Prix site a guy selling a 2000 Grand Prix GTP Pace Car from Talladega for $10,500 and he can deliever it from Ohio. Only 47K miles.

I already e-mailed him and said I'd pay the $10,500 if he can deliever it to me.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

That car looks stupid as hell.

$10,500 = RAPE

Would be sweet if you could get rid of the pontiac logos.

The black taillights just aren't doin' it for me. Neither is the bland white color. And what's with the spoiler and roof vents? No offense, but I could do without this car.

Perhaps. But a Grand Prix at a local dealer with just as many miles goes for an extra $5K. This is a Grand Prix enthusiast, the car has a few minor mods already, and Grand Prix enthusiasts will take better care of their cars.

Easy to do.

1.) Those tail lights are not black, they are red. They just look black.

2.) Those are not roof vents, they are lights. Remember this was a PACE CAR, the race drivers have to follow it. The yellow lights flash to indicate to the drivers that they are not allowed to pass it yet.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Points taken and noted. Didn't read the whole post. Despite the fact that I still don't like the white color, I think you're right to be able to say it'd be pretty sweet to drive around a pace car.

Haha if I take it to the track, as I am speeding down the track and about to win, I can turn on the lights to indicate I won.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Well if all else fails I can repaint over the red stuff and remove those lights. Keep in mind I want a low miles Grand Prix, this is a Grand Prix with low miles. And a reasonable price. Thus it's the car I want. And I love the fact it is a pace car.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Mess it up a lot and apply to Pimp My Ride. I'd love to see a pimped-out pace car.

No. Just. No. I hate that show, and I seriously don't want to find my car with a jacuzzi in the trunk or a 52 inch LCD TV on my front windshield.

If you like the car why would you want to change any of it because some weirdos here don't like it. $10,500 seems kind of low for an actual pace car but Taladega isn't one of the "famous" ones so... Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the red Pontiac graphics on the hood but pace cars are basically rolling commercials. The rest looks nice. If you're seriously considering buying it are you going to have a mechanic check it out before you seal the deal? What state are you wanting him to ship the car to?

Do you ever check out eBay? Here's one you might like.

GTP, $10.5? That's an awesome deal! The fact that it's a pace car just makes it that much sweeter! I wish I could've found a deal like that when I was looking for a car. What mods have been done so far? If it hasn't been done already, do a pulley swap (like I need to tell you that).

I'd say ignore everyone here. Doesn't seem like too many people here know anything about cars other than what they've seen in FNF. Sad really.

I'm sure that car was never offered with a manual. I would personally prefer a manual but I don't have the patience to teach my wife to use one.

Dude, spend that cash on something worth it. I could fond a way better deal. And its a automatic pontiac! Whatever go ahead, waste some money.

Why you would buy an American made car..especially a GM, at almost 50 k miles, at more then 10 G's is behind my understanding. Might as well spend that on a 2001 Civic/Accord with 47 K. Get you better perfomance, and more for you money.

That Prix is also ugly.

how can one become a Grand Prix 'enthusiast?'

I'm serious... its not like its a rare car or anything... but wow I see more grand prix's on the road then any other car hands down. For 10,500, do not buy this car, for the love of god don't, i could understand maybe 7 or 8 but that car is not even a GTP which really dosn't mean to much being that it is a heavy car to begin with that rolls like mad in corners and is an automatic and is front wheel drive. I do not mean to bust your chops for liking it, but honestly weigh yourself in to what you are buying, because unless it is the only thing in the world you'd want I would totally look elsewhere. BTW the pace car business will not mean crap to its price, looks to me like two hood stickers and thats about it. Maybe if it was a unique paint job but that is about as weak as they come when it comes to pace cars.

I think it looks like a good car, though $10,500 seems a bit steep.

Um, you're not interested in the car. He is. Of course you would look elsewhere. This is his second thread dealing with Grand Prix. How does anyone become a Civic, Accord, or whatever enthusiast? Cars, for some, are simply a matter of personal preference.

As far as the pace car bit goes this one must either be a repro or an actual pace car from the race with that light bar. But all any pace car is is a car with decals usually.

edit - oh, and he clearly says it is a GTP.

Because it's worth it. A Civic or Accord will get you better performance?! WTF are you smoking? Do you know anything about this car? No, obviously not.

Monixide, he said clearly that this IS a GTP.

1) Grand Prixs are amazingly awesome and hold up really well over mileage. My aunt's had a one for 7 years now, and it's got somewhere in the neighborhood of 80k on it, and it's never needed more than new brakes, tires, and a couple tune ups.

2) Not everyone wants/needs a honda. Seriously, the cars' looks are lame, the performance is bad (unless you spend over 10g's on 'performance enhancing' crap (I wonder what 10,000 dollars worth of R-Type stickers would do...)) the only thing it has over it is longevity.

Ok good discussion.

I only speak by experience and what I read. This years latest realibities scores came out for cars last week and I believe GM was around last place for a few consecutive years.

As for the look, thats my opinion, as much as Honda's looking lame are yours. Not point arguing that I wont change my mind, and sure hope you dont change yours.

Let me find that link, I had it here somewhere. Crimsion, well you are there telling me I know jack **** can you get some credible information to back your claim besides the one Grand Prix your friend/family memeber/teacher/dog owns?

GM reliability questions aside, the GTP is a modern performance car for the average joe. Plenty of room inside, plenty of power, and lots of luxury features.

That too. Hondas aren't nearly as roomy, nor do they come in leather (often...though why you would buy a honda with leather interiors is beyond me...) and also GM can come in dead last for all I care for reliability--my mom's Grand Prix has never so much as hiccuped on the road, and for the most part that's how most people report their Grand Prix's to be.

Yes, Hondas are reliable and long lasting, both important components in a good cars. However, IMO, most (excluding Preludes, S2000s, and NSXs) have a sterilized demeanor about them - they have no real soul. Grand Prixs, though they may not be the most reliable of offerings, have other advantages.

Ubuu brings up a good point. I doubt that any arguments will change THRAWN's mind. He knows what he wants in a car, and will buy the vehicle that pleases him, not what others want him to buy.
