Katamari Damacy (PS2)
This is not your stereotypical game soundtrack. Instead, it is full of weird and creative songs from Japan. Easily the best game soundtrack of 2004.
Chrono Trigger (SNES) / Xenogears (PS) / Chrono Chross (PS)
All of these were done by the same person AFAIK (Yasunori Mitsuda) and all of them are fantastic. This guy has always pushed the limits of what can be done on a certain platform, taking the SNES and Playstation to new levels in terms of music. Chrono Trigger had some awesome themes, and the carribean and celtic inspired music pieces in Chrono Cross are a pleasure to listen to. I like the Xenogears soundtrack the most though, but that may just be a personal bias of mine.
Time Splitters 2 (PS2/XBox/Gamecube)
This game does not have a lot of music, and some of it isn't very good, but 'Chinese' and 'Neotokyo' remain two of my favorites tracks for a videogame period.
Command and Conquer Generals
Enormously underrated, this soundtrack is. It was composed by Bill Brown, the same man responsible for a lot of other music (mostly for Tom Clancy movies and games, as well as the music for some Id games like Quake 3 Arena and Return to Castle Wolfenstein). I personally love a number of the pieces, including 'China - Victory Theme' (and the entire line of China battle themes) as well as some of the hard hitting USA themes and those inspired by middle eastern music, for the GLA. Really good stuff I think.
Final Fantasy Games (NES, SNES, PS, PS2, etc.)
There is a lot of great music to be found in these games. Do understand that a lot of them suffer from poor sound quality and the sheer amount of tracks (85 for FFVII alone) make it difficult to separate the good from the bad. All in all, I really like FVII's soundtrack and Final Fantasy Tactics.
Freedom Fighters
The Russians are coming...and they've brought some interesting music with those cool Russian chants with them. I like 'Main Title' and 'Flag of Freedom' in particular.
God of War (PS2)
Not as good as I expected after all the hype about its "movie like soundtrack," but damn...if 'The Vengeful Spartan' doesn't kick complete *** than what does?
Halo (Xbox, PC)
Over the years I've grown tired of this soundtrack, but when I first heard the Halo theme (in that one awesome trailer shown off at some Apple conference...yes, that one) I was amazed. 'Truth and Reconciliation Suite' I believe is what it's called, and the second half is the Halo theme.
Hidden and Dangerous 2
Reminds me of those older World War 2 movies. I like the two different variations of the main menu and the success theme in particular, as well as 'Norway Battle' (not the official name for it I think).
Metal Gear Solid 3 (PS2)
This soundtrack is a bit bland in places, and I wish there wasn't as much forgettable ambient nosense in the tracks and more music from those cool action sequences. But when the thing does pick up...o'boy o'boy...Both 'On the Rail Bridge' and 'Virtuous Mission' really pick up about a third of the way in. 'Metal Gear Solid 3 Theme' is also alright...of course it takes 5 minutes for the composer to actually get to the freakin' point and play what I wanna hear :p
Planescape: Torment
Very impressive all around, with some standout performances like 'Deionarra' as well as 'Battle Sigil' and 'Battle Curst.'
Outcast
No standout performances, but a well composed and produced soundtrack, and fully orchestrated no less.
Planetside
Honestly, I didn't expect the tracks of a FPS MMORPG to be so good. 'Planetside Sanctuary' and 'Planetside Theme' are both great pieces, and many others are very well put together and relaxing, like 'Planetside Temperature'. All of these titles come directly from the files contained within the Planetside folders.
Other solid soundtracks:
Deus Ex
Mafia
Metroid Prime (GC)
