The Japanese soundtrack release of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. All those great songs, elongated.

There was nothing new in music in JK that we haven't heard in the movies. KotOR had new music.

Halo/Halo 2 hands down for me is the best. Marty O'Donnell ROCKS.
Hitman 2/Contracts had superb music.
KotOR
Deus Ex
Chaos Theory has decent music, but I dislike playing with it turned on. It kills the immersion for me.

Those are the few off the top of my head that I love, but really only Halo and Hitman are worth really listening too outside of the game.

Blizzard's soundtracks have always been amazing, IMO. The Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft series music are all some of the best soundtracks I've heard period, not just limited to videogames. I also have a fondness for Deus Ex, UT2k4, TS2, and both Half-Lifes

[Edit] And PlanetSide. Forgot that one.[/Edit]

Anyone regular to the music forum about half a year ago knows how much I love MegaMan X and X2's music. (And some of X3, but not as much).

I also liked the music from Mystical Ninja back in the day. I just love the clasical-ish Japanese music sound. :o

Dude, you got it dead-on. The Castlevania music is among the best--especially the recent soundtracks by Michiru Yamane.

Other noteworthy soundtracks are the Chrono Trigger series, Final Fantasy series, the vast majority of Mario games, Zelda series, Metroid series, and Katamari Damacy.

Deus Ex, followed by Chrono Trigger, FF6, SMRPG, then Cave Story.

hmm...

Doom Series: Just a few levels say it all soundtrack wise for me. Doom I: Last level in Knee Deep in The Dead and Shores of hell episodes ( Or the Baron of Hell and Cyberdemon levels) and in Doom II: Dead Simple.

Legend of Zelda series.

Metroid series.

Street Fighter II music.

Final Fantasy games always have good music in them. Most notably, I would say 6, 7, and 8.

Chrono Trigger had a really awesome soundtrack. There was also a jazzy version done called Brink of Time.

Morrowind had a nice soundtrack, though it wasn't the longest.

Knights of the Old Republic also had a very nice soundtrack.

Knights of the Old Republic. Hands down.

The sequel's music was a bit disappointing to me.

OOOo.. as an addendum, I just remembered that Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb has a great soundtrack.

It's not just a bunch of cues extracted and looped ad-nauseum from the OST's. It's all original and fully orchestrated. In my opinion it out-Williamses John Williams material and is far less predictable too.

what he said. this is one of the few games where i couldnt play with the sound off/low because it wasnt as fun without the music.

Deus Ex is one of those games too, because the music sets the atmosphere.
