Fantastic Four...not?

Batman Begins did it for me in terms of that I love the character they built up. The scarecrow doctor guy was an awesome character. Liam Neeson was kickass with his voice over monologues on his training. I was never bored as I thought all that backstory was really cool and will lead to more Batman movies as well. I liked the way it showed him going a little crazy with his money and just being an arrogant person the way you'd expect him to be and not some sulky drawn out 'emo' fashioned person. I could be biased for liking it that much...

So, I just came from the theater. Ignore the Rotten Tomatoes site, as I always do, and if you generally like comics see the movie. I enjoyed it more than Batman Begins but I wouldn't say it was a better film. Just that to me the pacing kept me more interested.

Only minor problems with the film. Not really enough to mention other than I have a problem with Jessica Alba. It's not that I think she's a bad actress but that she just looks too perfect. She is usually very unconvincing as anything remotely resembling a normal person. She is meant to be put on a pedastel and worshipped as a goddess.

I just saw this movie. I want my $7.50 back.

I wore my Fantastic Four shirt, an 1/4 into the movie I leaned over to my frien and told him I am gonna have to borrow his overshirt when we leave cause I felt so embarassed to be wearing it.

AND I AM PROUD TO BE A COMIC NERD!
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

FF was okay... maybe 6/10 on my scale.
Not perfect, but I enjoyed it :)

I just think it's funny that despite poor reviews and some comments here (I, of course, thought it was really good) that this was the movie that finally drug Hollywood out of it's slump.

Saw Fantastic Four the other night. Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm are perfectly cast, and their acting and the interaction between these two characters is the movie's only saving grace. Everyone else is horribly awkward, especially Jessica Alba. The plot is pretty stupid, the final show down would've been cool if it took place half way through the movie. Also, if you've seen the trailer, you've seen basically 95% of the action from the movie.

The "hollywood slump" is misleading. Think about it... last year, you had Return of the King come out at the end of December, and then you had The Passion of the Christ come out in February I think it was, with a strong boost in revenue again at Easter. Those two movies alone drove overall revenue to record levels in the late winter and early spring. I read an article a while back that talked about how if you compared this year to the year before last year (2 years ago) revenues are still gradually increasing. It would only make sense that hollywood would come out of the slump sometime in the early to middle summer, when the 2 big movies of last year were no longer widely distributed in theatres.

You also have to account for how thoroughly Fantastic Four was marketed. I haven't seen the film, and I don't plan to, but I must admit that the marketing people behind this movie did what needed to get done, and were very thorough. It's no surprise that everyone and their children wanted to see this film.

I saw Fantastic Four and I enjoyed it. By no means Oscar material and no where near X-Men in quality, but I still enjoyed it. I think that's because I liked Johnny Storm so much. He's my favorite part of the movie. :)

I saw Fantastic four and Batman. Fantastic four was awful and batman was alright. I didn't really see the point of watching the same story of batman in two seperate movies.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I found these quotes to be amusing:

"Who are these half-wit Hollywood clowns that keep hiring cleavage-candy actresses with no measurable talent to play laughably bespectacled scientists in action movies?"

"Right from the start the movie smells like a stinker because of its Z-grade casting."

An overinflated B-movie with no grace, no subtext, no wit, and featuring beefcake/cheesecake actors who look like they've been plucked from the soaps."

^ I don't know why the reviewer decided to give the option of beefcake OR cheesecake actors . . .

Unfortunately, I can't take RT for its word completely. For example, they gave Conair, an action-packed, suprisingly well written thriller with Nicholas Cage, a 40%. Yes, I said wtf as well.

I was entertained by it. I agree that Sue and Reed were miscast, but Johnny and Ben were spot on. It lacked a big conflict, but that didn't both me too much.

That's fine if the slump was just this year compared to last but:

The latest superhero movie may have been just fantastic enough to snap Hollywood's longest modern losing streak at the box office.

I just got back from it. It was crap. I didn't enjoy it at all.

Oh, and Jessica Alba sucks.

Well, according to Wehrenberg's owner, ticket sales are down from 2004, but up from 2003 by 8%. I realize that this isn't truly representative, but I think it paints at least something of an accurate picture.

It may be in a decline, but movies aren't in a "slump."

But she's hot. And I think she's the only one who doesn't know that it's not her acting ability that gets her jobs.

I'm sorry but you have just totally discredited yourself. You have to be a jealous female or something. You are no longer allowed to comment on this matter.

If by ugly you mean beautiful and hot, then yes.

Her acting isn't terrible, in my opinion, but it's not too good either. However, part of the problem is that the movies she's been in haven't asked her to do much in the way of acting. She pretty much just has to stand there, look pretty, and say some stupid lines. I'd like to see her cast in a role that demands good acting, and then see if she can act well or not.
