Congrats! The store seemed a bit shift, to me. First they told me I had to pay with cash, 'cos they'd shut down the EFTPOS machine, then they sort of grumbled about receipt giving. To be fair, I got there technically after they had closed...

I just finished the game. Planning on playing it through again on the dark side.
2003-11-29, 12:16 PM #43
Got it for 40$ CAD today [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Got a new computer too, gonna wait until I finish assembling it before I start playing.

I love that game so much.. I had to uninstall it. It was consuming my life.

maybe i can get some tips for increasing performance...
my system is Athlon 1.4ghz, 384mb PC2100 DDR, Radeon 8500LE 128mb, 10gb 7,200rpm HDD (small, but quick [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif])
i get a lot of lag in the open areas of Upper Taris...
i'm running at 1024x768 85hz with shadows and grass off...
DX9.0b and the latest vid card drivers are installed.

even with all my fiddling i can't get my framerate up =/ any ideas?

I get pretty poor performance in a lot of areas as well, and so do a lot of other people. That's just the way it is. At least cranking up the resolution and Anti-Aliasing seem to have very little effect on performance...I'm likely CPU limited in these areas.

This sounds like a very interesting game.
I started to put it on the list for consideration but since there's no demo, I didn't.

Upping the texture quality, anistropy (all the way to 2x! As far as my card goes!) and, I think, anti-aliasing had no effect on the framerate whatsover. I may as well up the resolution, too...

It's weird, 'cos the video card is definitely the bottle neck...

It's probably SafeDisc. It screwed Morrowind, too.

one thing that does improve performance, in my opinion, is to rip the CDs to an ISO or BIN/CUE and load them up with Daemon Tools or some other virtual drive program.
my hard drive (actually another one on my network) is a lot faster than my dvd drive (=

I went to media play the day after thanksgiving to get it. The game cost $50 and didn't appear to have any special sales on it (I looked long and hard in hopes of finding one), and I had a $10 gift card. I took it to the register and after taxes it was somehow $34...

Anyways, the game is great and I can definatly tell what the majority of my Christmas break is going to be speant doing... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

If you are a fan of Bioware's other games, especially the Baldur's Gate series, you will love this game. If you are a fan of Star Wars, you will love this game. If you need to try it out, you could give it a whirl on XBox (if you know anyone who has it)

anyone else having crashes on Dantooine? and did the 1.01beta patch fix it?
i'm getting less crashes now that i've done the main quests but i'm trying to finish up the side ones and every once in a while when i'm moving into a different zone it crashes to the desktop (after sitting at a black screen for about 20 seconds)

anyway...
i'm addicted [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

EDIT: can you get Juhani to join your party? I couldn't at all =(
or does it have something to do with your class? i'm a soldier/Guardian...

I didn't really like the game too much. Far too linear RPG elements I thought.

I'm only about 2h in so far, and it's been great. I have only two gripes: it seems the classes are unblanced towards the soldier/guardian. This is partially because of my second gripe: NO WEAPON FINESSE?! That mean you can never use your dex to roll-to-hit with a melee weapon, even if it is light. Bummer :/

I just finished KOTOR last week, and I about cried. I finished it as a Jedi, my lightside points were off the scale. My favorite character would be Jolee, he has some pretty interesting stories. And the man responsible for the score was Jeremy Soule, I believe. Same man that did the music for NWN.

Oh, and Bastila is Jaden! Well the female Jaden anyways.

That might work for some games, but KOTOR? The game is installed entirely on the hark disk to start with. You might have been better off just downloading a no-cd patch. That's a good tip for other games though.

I was getting crashes all the time for awhile. Heck, I couldn't even load a saved game from the main menu. I had to start a new game and load my saved game while in game... a real pain.

Anyways, if you have an Geforce FX series card(like i do), you need to get the latest Forceware drivers off the Nvidia site. That fixed the problem for me.

If you've got a ATI all in one wonder card, then go here and this might fix your problem - http://support.lucasarts.com/trg/tgd.asp?id=2710&g=148&s=4

If you've got a Radeon 9600, then download the beta patch because apparently that will do the trick. Unfortunatly they do warn you not to Download the beta patch if you are not experiencing the problems listed on this page - http://support.lucasarts.com/trg/KotORPC.htm

Sounds to me like the error is more like what I had... hope this helped.

hehe, i don't have a GeForce FX... don't have an all-in-wonder... not even a 9600 [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
it's just a plain 8500LE 128mb (=

anyway, i finished up the main quest on Dantooine and it's fine now. go figure.

oh, and i SO want Weapon Finesse.
i made a second character to do dark side and be a scout... great with ranged weapons and all that but when i went to get set up for my lightsaber there was no weap. finesse =(
i just about cried.

yes, it is very unbalanced... leaning way toward soldier.

Bioware shows how Canadian (I think) companies can make goodness. Funny if Squaresoft made a StarWars RPG (hey, they worked with Disney Interactive).

Here's a tip, save all of your credits and visit the station in Yavin's orbit as often as possible, without it being excessive. There's a pretty neat side quest there that unfolds; it involves lightsabers.

i went from Dantooine to Tatooine... hehe, beat all three tiers of the swoop races ;D got a couple thousand creds easily there... add that to my big bank account i got from Taris... hehe [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
I don't spend much money... and i don't mind taking a few dark side points if I get a better price *grin*

i'm just a little bit on the light side of 'middle ground' right now... but i'm planning a second game for when i beat this one where i'll be as dark as possible.

btw, WHAT is up with Carth??? he's so annoying! any time i want to say something to go slightly Dark he gets on my case! same with Bastila...
I don't think I like either of them. HK-47 is my new favourite companion... and Zaalbar because they both just do what they're told ;D
(Canderous rocks, btw)
[end rant about the good-ness of characters]

i was trying to explain the fight system to a friend of mine who has never really played any RPGs and has no idea how d20 works... heh.
well, he's going to give the game a try over xmas break... i may have to coach him on the character building (=
(he's a total StarWars freak... he actually got ME hooked on Massassi and DarkForces [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] )

Anyone know if it is possible to edit the game and make a weapon finesse feat? I mean.. it's the same engine as NWN, and that was very editable. And the light weapons are already categorized for you!

apparently when using a lightsaber it will automatically use your DEX if it's higher.

but... is it even possible to edit the game? i don't think there's a toolset [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

I'll admit to Reactor CTF, Duel Abyss, Duel Turbulent, and even the CCCP, but not Sky High! (my first, be kind!) Ok so maybe I will.
