My problem with Jehovah's Witnesses stems from them using the bible as a word for word rule book. A friend of mine once tried to convert me, and I read the literature with an open mind. I must admit that a lot of the arguments were very compelling.....so long as you took the bible at face value.
The bible was written by men. Whether you believe they were touched by God or not, they were still men, carrying their own biases that likely came out in much of their writings. I say 'likely' because I cannot prove it either way. No one can.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with much of what the bible says. I find the parables of Jesus to be excellent reminders of the virtuosity of man, but this is only because they ring true with what is in MY soul. I will never let an ancient book dictate how I live. I do not think any god would put a blueprint on how to live on paper. I think it takes a hard look at one's self, and a lot of soul searching to find the ideal way to live well, and co-exist with each other.
Those are my thoughts. I better get going before my Presbyterian family senses my blasphemy, and comes to club me. (j/k, they are a very understanding bunch)
