Yeah, he's one of the few real 'actors.' Most just play themselves or the same character over and over.

I saw it again with a friend tonight. I laughed just as much as I did the first time. I forgot how many great one liners and actions Depp gave/did in this movie. Awesome.
Think while it's still legal.

These 16ish year-old girls came into my work tonight and were like "GODDDDDD WILLY WONKA SUCKED SO BAD, did you see it?"

"yes"

"DIDNT IT SUCK SO BAD? LOLOLOLOLOLOL? IT WASNT ANYTHING LIKE THE FIRST MOVIE AND JOHNNY DEPP WAS CREEPY! OMFG LOL!"

"no, I enjoyed it, and it's a bit closer to Roald Dahl's vision than the first movie."

"Roald Dahl? LOLOLOLOL! HOW COULD YOU LIKE, LIKE THAT MOVIE? LOLOLOLOLOL!"

"Are you guys buying anything?"

"No....LOLOLOL?"

Except the difference between Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller is that Ben Stiller is f'n hilarious anyways. Owen Wilson is just terrible. Stiller is just naturaly a funny *** person.

Ben Stiller doesn't try to act most of the time. He's hired for roles where the "Ben Stiller" type character is what's called for. He's not hired to be a great actor, just to be funny in the Ben Stiller kind of way.

I really liked the movie, I thought it was hilarious. And kids should NOT be seeing this movie, it will creep them the f*** out. "Everything in this room is eatable, even me! But that's called cannibalism and is really frowned upon in most cultures." I couldn't believe they went there. Not in a PG Willy Wonka movie!

Also, Johnny Depp is a great actor, just for the record. Compare his performances in Pirates of the Carribean, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. TOTALLY different person.

This is why I'm excited to see Jack Black in King Kong; he'll be playing something totally different than what he normally does.

Oh please. A brief mention of cannibalism is hardly objectionable.

And I don't think jack black can pull off a serious role. He's like Ben Stiller. He always seems funny no matter what he says. He will just come off as sarcastic and it will be too hard to take him seriously. Although he could surprise me of course.

Did you ever see The Cable Guy? He played a pretty un-funny role in that movie.. more of a whiney "why dont you give ME the attention" guy.

I really really enjoyed the movie.

did anyone catch all the little references to...

The Fly?
Pirates of the Carribean?
Johnny Scissorhands?

There were others, but I forget them now.

The only thing that dissapointed me was the lack of the "Oompa Loompa" song from the original... but other than that, five thumbs up!

I really enjoyed it, and it was worth the price of admission just to hear Christopher Lee say lollipops.

Haha, yes. He had the perfect voice for the part. I've never heard anyone say "caramel" with so much evil hatred.

Yeah but that's still within his character, he didn't really have to be dramatic or serious. What I'm talking about is the most likely very dramatic role he will have in king kong. It's completely different. i think he will come off as melodramatic/sarcastic.

Why is it, that SO MANY PEOPLE still don't grasp that this movie WASN'T a remake...

I pity people who weren't exposed to Roald Dahl in their childhood. Seriously, that man was a genius. If you didn't know there was a book, then you lose at life.

1) Not having Aviators
2) Not being exposed to Roald Dahl

[QUOTE=Chaz Ghostle]I'm not really looking forward to it, mostly because I love the Gene Wilder version, and I can't seem to get passed my bias. Also, from what the previews show, something about Depp's version of Wonka seems extremely off. Not appealing at all.

He seems like... such a... "prissy-girl". I mean, from the trailers, that's sort of how he acts. And he wears his hair like my ex-art teacher, Miss Jones. I can't find a better word to describe him.

Depp used to be one of my all-time favourite actors, but this movie looks very disappointing to me. One of the trailers gave me a nosebleed.

Hey, here's an idea: go see the movie before you judge it! It seems most people thought it looked crappy from the previews but they liked it when they saw it. Imagine that.

Well... I agree with 'most people'. But then, that's why they make trailers, right? To make people want to see the movie. In my opinion, I just didn't want to pay ten bucks to see more of what was in those trailers. Especially not the nosebleed one.

If you've seen it, though, and you can honestly tell me it's worth the money, I'll consider seeing it.
