Yeah, I was thinking the same thing for keys like shift, alt, ctrl, etc.

This is some great 21st century technology. Fixed controls are so inefficient and archaic. Imagine switching between applications and having your keys automatically adjust and display new function. You could add a couple rows of F-like keys which could be bound to your typical ALT-<key> functions...productivity would be increased like tenfold.

Right now those keys on the far left are for switching between program shortcuts. Hit the Firefox icon button, and you get your whole keyboard set up for Firefox. Hit photoshop, and all the photoshop shortcuts come up.

Although an autodetection scheme would kick even more *** :D

Hate to dredge something up from page 2, but it's definately going into production, though the cost will be pretty high:

Hopefully it will be possible to have images shown across the entire keyboard, which would be kickass.

The W key is too far over and would mess it up for gaming.

W key is in the same place it always is on every standard QWERTY keyboard I've ever used...

Hey...now we can make an Any key image and have it be on any key! >_>

Maybe the next generation will have the whole front of the keyboard be able to display images so we can have keyboard background layouts.

Just make some custom images to put on the keys and then put a glossy black mat over the other parts of the keyboard and voila, LCARS.

Damn, that keyboard is just plain cool, even completely ignoring every pratical aspect of such a design... :)
