My job sucks and my boss might be talking behind my back
2005-07-24, 12:14 PM #41
i know for a fact that my boss, and one of the longest working backroom people are talking behind my back.(my co-workers keep me updated on this(the ones in my age group that is)) apparently they think ive gotten slow or something, even though you can check how many pulls you've done (how many items you've pulled from the warehouse) on this sheet that prints every week and im far from the bottom in both number of pulls, and error percentage.

like omg I have been turned down for an interview like *2* times and my relative even works at one zomg! RELATIVES SHOULD MEAN %100 EMPLOYMENTLOLZERSKATES.

I remember back when I was looking for a job....one miss and I was like "ZOMG SCREW THIS GOD IS TALKING BEHIND MY BACK"

I was almost convinced that after 2 jobs not contacting me that God really had it in for me and probably put in a note to all my future employers.

Now that I'm actually in "the biz"....I realize it was all true...we've got a whole bulletin board in the office with "Don't hire this guy, he's trouble - God"

Ok sorry for the long disappearance, computer problems.

Few notes, the majority of jobs landed these days (At least more professional) are done through contacts. People you know already in the company help land jobs.

I ultimately found out the reason why I didn't get one of the jobs was because the man who hired me was racist and looking for minorities. The rejection letter came Saturday, I interviewed previous Thursday. 2 days after the interview. In the letter he wrote they decided to go with someone else (same with my friend). I found out Tuesday that they hired the 2 people that day, a black man and a black woman.

A little background here, the top SIX managers at this location were all white males. The 7th person in charge was a black male, the man who interviewed me. According to my father, he was probably "looking" for more minorities to fill the positions there. So, 5 days AFTER I interviewed, and 3 days AFTER I get the letter saying "We went with someone else" they hired someone else. Keep in mind, these other 2 people were not interviewed until Tuesday, which was 5 days after and 3 days after the letter arrived telling me someone else was hired.

Now as far as why my manager is talking **** about me, or so I think? This has happened BEFORE. I already know for a fact my manager has something against me. He has screwed up my hours at work, cutting me from 40 hours down to 15 hours, and I quote "I want to make an example out of him." And another manager confirmed that statement. Yes, the store manager said he wants to make an example out of me, and another manager said it was a true statement.

I got another manager who told me to put down his personal cell phone number if I have to because he also thinks the store manager is talking crap behind my back like that.

And the reason for all this? Its a very long story, but basically there is this "goal" that they want the store to reach. We've reached it ONCE before, and I told him how we reached it and why we reached it. I said that if we want to reach it again, odds are this is how we are gonna have to do it. What happens? He yells at me and says there are other ways to reach it. He then completely cut my weekend hours away for like a month and a half.

We still haven't reached it. And it's been 4 months.

Funniest part is, I was one of the key factors for reaching that goal originally. The other was a female server (Who can be replaced with a particular male server), 2 cooks and a manager.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Um...Yeah, affirmitive action IS racism. It's something designed for the sole purpose of giving minorities jobs who are underqualified for the position versus those who might be qualified.

Who knows, maybe the guy and girl has experience in selling cars. None the less, it does sound fishy.

And finally, you made no mention of the fact that I just laid down proof of past experiences where my manager had singled me out.

Weird, this post is supposed to go below the post below...

Yeah, it is racism - but it's legal racism. It sucks that people can't prove themselves by their own merits anymore but are rather employed to meet quotas.

Yes, it is legal racism.

Alright we established that, thus the affirmitive action/racist part of this thread has been discussed.

Now, back on the original subject:

Anyone want to challenge it now that I stated WHY and HOW I know my manager is talking about me? Yeah, that part of my long *** post above still hasn't been addressed. Now that I finally told you all how I know it's true, you all jumped on something else.

I've been searching for the past 4 months for a new job. Ever since my hours were cut, I have been job hunting. I realized then and there that this manager is a f'ing retard. So no, this has been going on for months now between him and me. The only reason why I haven't been fired I think is so I can't claim unemployment benefits. Every chance this guy gets, he will do something to me. Last Sunday he took away one of my tables and gave it to someone else so I only had 2 (when most people had 3).

1.) Cut back my hours from 40 to 15.

2.) Has said behind my back to coworkers AND managers "I want to make an example out of him."

3.) Sends me home first if early cuts are made.

4.) Does not fulfill my schedule requests and even said once that if I don't show up, he will write me up and terminate me. When I put down not to schedule me before a specific time, he will.

5.) Screws with my tables so I get less and less.

6.) Last Friday, completely removed me from the floorplan because he thought I wasn't going to show up. Why? Because the previous Friday I called in sick and so he thought I was just gonna stop showing up.

I'm sure there are others, but every chance this guy seems to get, he will do something.

And the funniest part?

My mom actually agrees. Yes, the ***** who I can't stand actually for once sides with me and supports me in trying to find out if this man is indeed breaking the law, and supports me bringing legal action against him if I get proof. She even supports me quitting this job and helping me try to find new ones.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ISN'T ABOUT HIRING LESS QUALIFIED MINORITIES.

Jesus H tapdancing Christ almighty. WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET THAT IDEA?

Nice job ignoring the nepotism comment.

In EVERY thread you post, you just expect things to fall into your lap. EHHHHH. Reality Check. There is a one and three gozillion chance of anything just falling into your lap in the real world.

Let me explain something to you about the REAL world. You have to play people. You have to grit your teeth and bare it. Telling your boss how it is, is the stupidest thing you can do. Assuming that you are the ends all be all, and the solution to a companies problems is not only big headed, but it's also downright untrue.

NEVER tell your boss' that they are wrong. Here's how it works when you're not in management. You do what you are told. Yes sir, no sir, yes sir, no sir. You may offer suggestions, but don't expect people to care. YOU ARE NOT CARRYING THE COMPANY. No matter how much you think you are, you aren't.

Unless you plan on being an entrepeneur, owning your own company, winning the lottery, or inventing the next big thing you need to wake up. Smell the coffee, and learn how things work. Right now, you're only spinning your wheels in the high class, hollier than thou crap you're driving.

(Edit: Missed a comma, and other little stuff)

I got my last three jobs through monster.com without contacts or affirmative action :) I always refuse to fill out the age/race crap that they ask and say is voluntary.

I always fill it out. Might as milk Afirmitive Action while it last.
Oh, and I love the way I phrased that. Milk..ahah. great.

Why not try going above the guy's head. Write a letter to his boss or the owner. I quit a job a few years back because my boss was a twit. I wrote a letter to her boss, and they offered my a better job.

This is going to happen after I leave the company. I know right now that I will not get a "better" job within the company because I am not a manager. I don't have a management degree.

Yet.

However, I have the information about my district manager and will be in touch with him the very day my position is fully resigned.

We've got whiners at our store...complaining about their hours and stuff....I tell em its a big world out there....quit now if you don't like it and get a good reference or get fired later and you're sunk.

We had one guy at my Target complain about his hours to the right people. Something about "I was told I was going to get 40 hours a week" Anyway, he had been hired on just a week before. He tried coming in on a week he had 40 hours to make up for goin home early the week before. Now, if he was a good Backroom person, I might not have such a problem with it. But he only averaged about 500 pulls a week and had an error rate of 3.4 ( Cazor, you'll know what I"m talking about) anyway, he eventually got fired for having 6 pages of documentation against him for doing stupid stuff. ( climbing around the recieving area without a ladder in front of the wrong people, for instance.)
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...
Managing a Cracker Barrell far from requires a management degree.
Tell that to corporate.

4 year degree in business management

or

2 years previous experience as a store manager somewhere.

And to those who say I am whining, remember

I've caught my manager already talking about me behind my back to coworkers. That in itself can get him in trouble.
