post your download speeds

Download only really limited by the speed of the network, so theoretically 100 Mb/s down. Slightly slower realistically of course.

Upload something like 10 Mb/s up, but I'm not entirely positive if this is the limit or just the fastest I've been able to test.
Phone lines aren't incapable of that speed. DSL KTHX.

It could happen, but I've never seen it happen.
Uhh, DSL != Dial up.

On a dialup connection, it could never happen on a phone line.

It's highly unlikely. But then again, theoretically I've got a 3mbps cap, and I reach speeds of 1mbps from time to time (no, it's not incorrectly posting). While technically the hardware shouldn't be able to handle it, I don't think you nor me have the knowings of a 56k modems innards as far as what it can and cannot do. We know what it theoretically should and shouldn't be able to do, but not what it can and cannot do.

Keep in mind the ability of modern modems to compress data -- if you download a 1Mb text file & then a 1Mb ZIP file, I'm pretty sure the text file would complete significantly faster. ;)
woot!

It COULD, but you're right, I didn't think about the byte counter. The only reason I considered it is because I'm using a dialup to a local university and am probably one of the only people using it.

They're not designed to handle such speeds, but they can acheive them. 10/100 networks are only designed for 100 Mbps at the most but frequently acheive higher rates, sustained throughout the entire download.

And thats with 5 people playing on the SBX server. I should really get on of those gaming routers so I can give priority bandwidth to the games.

My download speeds can start off as high as 250 KB/s, but usually level off to about 100 average. Still, it really does depend on where you're downloading from...
