I have WinAmp version 2.91, and like it, except for 1 reason, I can't get it to play my songs continuasly. It plays one song then stops and waits for me to select a new song. How would I get it to play my whole play list.

It sounds to me that in "Options" part of "Preferences" you have the box 'Manual Playlist advance" selected.

That's it. On a similiar note, Winamp 5 Final is now out.

http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/winamp50_full.exe

If you can't get that to work, just search for the file with DAP or on google. It's pretty swank.

i downloaded it after seeing this post and let me say it is BY FAR the best looking version!! the default skin takes all the best parts of all the best skins and puts them into one. amazing, i'm in love! they even got the old library back from Winamp 2, that was the only thing keeping me from using 3. it's library was nowhere near as good.

And 3 is a resource hog.. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Yeah, on 2 there is a button near the top, usually near the volume controls and the track switching. Press it to go continuous, and there's one near it to shuffle.

Brian, Winamp 5 is an upgrade to Winamp 2. it now has some features from 3. it does start instantly, and all the plug-ins from 2 work wonderully. Winamp 3 has been renamed to Wasabi.player to reflect it's misplacement as a winamp update. it was supposed to be more of a next generation winamp than a simple update. however, AOL forced Nullsoft to release it in it's pre-alpha or alpha form and called it finished. its nowhere near finished apparently. its official development has been halted, but some nullsoft devs are still trying to finish it. now that you've gotten a not-so-detailed history of winamp that you never asked for, i'll be going [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Just got Winamp5, and I'm impressed. It actually looks as good as 3, yet is as fast as 2. What I really like is that movies play right now. They always went slow with 2, but they work perfectly with 5. Then again, I only tested it with two movies (Rejected, and William Shatner's performance of Rocketman).

Call me nostalgic and all, but I'm still running WinAmp 2.666, which is no longer supported and/or available for download by NullSoft... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

From my first impressions, I was never overly enthusiastic about WinAmp 3 - if I wanted to play video files, I'll use mplayer2.exe (call me archaic and ancient if you please [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]) with the right codecs (in my opinion it's far better than the now cluttered Windows Media Player 9, but hey - that's a different topic [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]). Equally, if I wanted to play music files with a heavy, chunky program, I'd use QuickTime (anyone spotting the irony?) or RealPlayer (real "carp", in my opinion).

That said (rant == finished [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]) - I'll have a download and see what it's like [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] - but I refuse to be converted easily... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

It's certainly better than version 3, which I'll admit to have been using for a while (mainly because I hate Media Player).

It's like 2 but a bit prettier (Nice to be able to change the fonts) - No complaints from me!

Apple products are not the devil and spawn of Satan. Equally so, Winamp is not God Almighty.

I realize that after the first 5 or so times, it's usually continued just because, but for crying out loud, it's an OPINION. Opinions make humans unique. If you can't stand that, I think you have serious issues. Please, just stop already.

That being said, I downloaded Winamp 5 about 30 minutes ago. It's nice... but I've already found many things I dislike. It may just be my ignorance to the multitude of options. Who knows. I'll ask more about when I get home (Hooray for broadband and CD burners at school!) and look at it more indepth.

For video I just use quicktime, which is far supurior to Windows Media because it can rewind and fastforward while still playing. But quicktime has almost zero extra features.

Quicktime sucks noodles. On Windows, get LightAlloy. Its fast, lightweight, and will play anything you have a codec installed for.

I'll ask the question again. If it sucks so bad, why on earth are all movie trailers released in it's format? Along with many other various "officially" realeased items.

Because it's one of the most full featured video formats available. Nevermind there is a logo on it that seems to be a stigma amoung the younger geek circles.

The format isnt so bad. Save for the fact there arent that many good decoders on Linux, the format doesnt suck as badly as the player. Apple has this big problem where all of its user interfaces look like ****. I mean, the player, its totally unusable. It looks completely out of place on Windows, and it would look silly on any decent Linux window manager.

It also hogs CPU cycles like crazy. WTF does it do that? No other player I have capable of rendering quicktime files does that... Oh, wait, thats ight. Its an Apple product...

Which is, of course, your opinion. Frankly, I wish I could make Windows have the same look as Apple's UI for Quicktime and iTunes. I like it.

That, is MY opinion.
