Sorry to be a pain phoenix_9286, but I agree with GBK's reasons [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif] - the UI is not overly friendly for n00bs and he does have a point about being processor intensive... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]

As for why all movie trailers are released in that format... well I can't honestly give you an answer to that - for streaming media from web-sites (in the web's infancy), web developers seemed to prefer Apple's Quicktime format for releasing media clips, over every other media player/format available at the time. My guess is because Apple's products tend to look nice, but are hefty and chunky programs execution wise. Heck, I'm probably wrong, but maybe; maybe not - if anyone else knows why then I'd be intrigued to know more... No, it's not his opinion, phoenix, for any self-respecting user it's almost a mantra. I mean, c'mon, it looks like winxp *shudders*. But other than that, winamp is teh shizzle

No, it doesn't. Windows XP looks far, FAR, FAR worse with default settings.

And from where I sit, it's his opinion. He thinks it "sucks noodles", I think otherwise. Therefore, by my logic, we have differing opinions. If he has turned his opinion into a "mantra" that is his perogative.

For me, Winamp is the player of choice when I can't have iTunes. I've played with Winamp 5, and frankly, it holds about the same interest Winamp 3 did for me.

The awful thing about Quicktime is that you can't fullscreen it. I hate having bright white around quicktime and its stupid interface when I'm trying to make out some detail that looks almost black in the movie.

Also, whoever came up with streaming movies should be shot. I want to SAVE IT TO MY HARD DISK AND THEN WATCH IT WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT, DAMMIT! It's even more annoying when it won't even stream properly. It'll play about half a second then it's "buffering" for about 10. Then another half a second then more buffering. Et cetera. Ad nauseum. Uhh... QED. Id est.

Anyway, I don't see the point of an upgrade for Winamp 2.91 plays mp3s. This is the function I use it for. I don't stare at it because it's "pretty". I really don't care how it looks. It has too many worthless features as it is. Honestly, what are the point of "skins"?

I'm not sure about the "upgrade" - I think it's more just a case of bringing winamp back out of wasabi - and reintroducing some of the dumped features (Why why why did they take out the jump button?!)

Oh, and some skins look nicer with certain desktop configurations - I run mine windowshaded at the top of my screen - and depending on desktop wallpaper, I've got a couple of skins to match it with.

On the side, most skins for winamp do suck those noodles mentioned above (and a bit of bum if you ask me) [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

skins are for people like me, who like to use Winamp as part of their desktop. i dont want to see the boring blue and orange skin with any of my wallpapers.

Can someone give me a rundown on their opinion of winamp2.9x vs winamp5 ?
Performance, useability, footprint, all that sort of thing.
Basically i run a 450 box with like 256m ram, and i hate unneccessarily bloated flashy things [like that abomination that was winamp3].

I noticed that the site said recommended system specs of like a 1.2ghz.. wtf. That's silly.

I run a 500mhz "box, with 320 mb ram. WinAmp5 launched in about 3, the same as WinAmp 2.91. It's performance is great, I play JA with WinAmp, plaing my music, and it never skips or slows down the game. But If you already have WinAmp 2.91 or so, I see no reason for you to switch. the Only reason I swithed was because I couldn't get 2.91 to play continusly.

well, i'm running it on a 2.8ghz and it is slightly slower to load that 2.91, although that was almost instantaneous so I can't really complain, still up in under 2 secs.

the only real thing that I like about v5 is that its better than v3, has all the functions of 2.91, and has this nifty opacity function that you can make it fade away to whatever you like when you haven't got your mouse over it, bring it back over and its solid again. finding it very useful as i always have winamp "always on top" when i'm running it.

(did v3 have this? can't remember)

far as i can tell only works with "modern" skins ie made for v5 though....

its better than v3 by miles, i'm toying about with the idea of keeping it, been using 2.91 for ages...bar the fading, not any noticable difference thats worth mentioning so far, loads of colours built into new skin btw....(just found them...uumm bright pink and yellow....lovely [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] ) i've customized XP with a different skin and the "look" of v5 kinda fits in with it as well, thinking back to 98, it might look a bit...funny...

don't know how it would fair on your system, all animations are turned off as default (i think) although there are a load you can turn on....its pretty quick when up and running on mine...but most things are. definatly shouldn't need 1.2ghz as standard...

Looks neat; doesn't fix the problem I was having before with my laptop...

When I boot my laptop as docked or if the laptop is docked when I launch the program it freezes. When I say freeze it causes the mouse, keyboard, and everything to be unresponsive. I installed Foobar2000 today. It works! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
