Gas Prices

It's getting worse and worse. I'm sure some European massassians will tell us that we have no right to complain, but we're going to anyway. Here in northeast Ohio it's up to $2.70 a gallon for regular. What are the prices like where you're at? I know it's gotten above $3/gallon some places in CA and NY. It's getting ridiculous. Damn you, oil-dependent economy.

2005-08-18, 4:55 PM #3

Im being sarcastic. We all know its just the idiots at OPEC.

Stupid Exxon released there first quarters, FIRST quarters ok, now get this, the sales went up 46%, FOURTY-SIX PERCENT.

And they missed projection.

Christ, if any major, MAJOR company could raise the sales 46% and still miss projection, wtf are they on?
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
2005-08-18, 5:09 PM #11
I take back my previous post.

What annoying is that people still assume oil is going to be around forever.

Giant piles of cash? :p

speculation could very easily, and i repeat very easily, lead to the thought process;
bush senior bombs iraq in 1991. oil sky rockets. bush makes tons of money because that's what he does. oil.
bush jr. takes all steps necessary to find a way to bomb iraq because it's in his best interests, his presidential legacy be damned. he is a very very and much more very rich, more rich than you and i will ever ever be because he bombed iraq.
ever see the movie the corporation? stock traders talking about how they couldn't wait until bush bombed iraq because the first time it happened they made alot of money. this time they made more.

it's very easy to come to the conclusion that bush bombed iraq for the financial gain. very easy. you don't even have to be a conspiracy theorist. it just makes sense.

Yes, we will. :p

Seriously, Britlanders (and most of the rest of the freaking world) pays about 5-6 U.S. $ per gallon. So it's not unbearable for us just yet. Considering the U.S. consumes way more than it produces in oil each year, I don't think it's unreasonable that we should pay what we're paying. Plus being at war doesn't help. :/

Around $2.50/gal here. My mom said it cost over $50 to fill her van the other day, and it wasn't anywhere near empty.

I suggest making use of public transportation, including but not limited to: buses, subways, trains, and monorails. If it's feasible, you could ride a bike. If you're serious about it, you could move closer to where you work/shop/recreate.

Taking the above steps will solve more than complaining.

I read in the paper today that although Americans are complaining about gas prices that sales of trucks and SUVs are sky-rocketing because of the GM/Ford/every other American auto maker offering the employee sale prices on the autos. It's their clever scheme of getting Americans to buy expensive piles of crap that just eat up the gas, and the sad thing is, most Americans are buying into it.

My car gets 35MPG highway and 27 MPG city. Not bad at all. I do wish it was a diesel though.

Well let's see, few conversions needed. We buy petrol by the litre in Australian Dollars.

1 gallon = 3.785 litres. I saw unleaded for $AUD1.29 the other day, so that's $AUD4.88 a gallon. At the current exchange rate, that's $US3.67 a gallon.

Pitty us :(

My grandpa's old Honda Civic (Like, real old) got 50MPG highway, 43MPG city. He could go from Cincinnati to Myrtle Beach on one tank of gas.
