How to save Episode III...

phoenix_9286, the effects of the old trilogy is not what made it so great. It's the fact that the script was better. The new scripts suck big time, and I liked AotC. The acting is pretty crummy (but the article is right, Christopher Lee rules!) but even if he used models and Elmer's Glue™, it would still be garbage. Only now it would be garbage with 20 year old special effects.

I find it funny that you put "TM" after Elmer's Glue.

I'm aware of that. But to an extent, I think the effects in the OT were just as good as what he's used in the new films. To me they even looked more real. But as you said, a better script would help alot. I think his talent for writing good dialouge might be past...

I joined the thread a bit late but I have to say that of all the dialogue in both epsiodes 1 and 2 I only remember two lines:

"I truly... deeply... love you."
and
"Begun the clone war has."

Remembering those specific lines does not make me want to continue having these movies inflicted on me. Yes, they're the property of Lucas but he'd never have had the money to achieve "his vision" without the fans. It would just be common courtesy for him to admit his overwhelming incompetence and hand the reigns over to someone less inept to salvage what's left of the franchise.

I don't think that someone should be Shyamalan [sp] btw... if only because I'm sick of the quiet scene with a loud noise gags both 6th Sense and Signs were drowning in. I like his character development and slow burn suspense but using loud noises and the color red so repetitively kills their effect. And that's my tangent.

While the Hoth battle scene is indeed an incredibly gorgeous and amazing performance (since it used Stop Motion and was able to blot out the spots), the effects are far better in the new ones.

Go try this. Rent RotJ. Not the Special Edition, the original version and watch it. When Luke fights the Rancor, notice the purple lines around Luke? Cause the Rancor creature is on a giant screen. Then rent the Special Edition and watch it. They removed the lines, but it still looks poor.

Then rent Attack of the Clones and watch Obi-Wan slice and dice that one creature. Notice how much more flowing an real it looks? Sure the Rancor is the coolest monster in the Trilogy (old or new), but the effects for it would be far better in the new one.

Tracer, I know, I thought it would be semifunny to do.

Edit: If anyone should go near the final movie to direct, it should be James Cameron or Spieldburg. Cameron has shown he knows how to take a sequel and completely blow it away beyond the original (the first Terminator only grossed like $40 million). And Spieldburg cause he is great friends with Lucas and knows how to direct.
