The Illiad ends after the burial of Hector. So Achilles doesn't die in it, and the Horse never comes into Troy. The horse gets a brief mention in the Odyssey (also by Homer), but gets a starring role in The Aenead by Virgil, a Roman, about 900 years later.

I liked it. Then again, I seem to like a lot of things. A lot more than most people anyway :/

Would someone mind advising me whether to see Troy or Van Helsing with my friend?

Thinking of Troy atm, everyones opinions are so different though...

I thought it was pretty good and I really liked the sword fight between Hector and Achilles. I think the 1997 film The Odyssey, was alittle more enjoyable as well as more diverse. I know that Troy was only about the battle of Troy, but The Odyssey had more adventure and big, carnivorous beasts in it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

See Troy.

Van Helsing was entertaining, but they should have called it Castlevania with how they tried to amalgamate all the horror films. it was nice, but now that I think about it, it's probably more of a rental movie.

Can any movie ever please some of you Massassians? I thought the acting was excellent by every character in Troy, but the burning did get annoying. Overall it was incredibly awesome.

Oh, interesting. I guess i didn't get that far in the illiad. Well, the movie was still 'Troy', so it really doesn't matter if it came from the Aenead.

Oh, and:

I haven't seen Troy yet. But in X-Men, Hugh Jackman was about the hottest raging spikey slashy wolverine thing of all time. Though maybe if Brad Pitt had been in X-Men i may have a different opinion. Or Antonio Banderas, he /so/ made Desperado.

Hugh Jackman and Brad Pitt really don't compare to Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean...

Y'know... I'm just sayin', is all...
2004-05-19, 11:01 PM #63
What? Johnny Depp was in no way attractive and oozingly naughty like Brad Pitt was in Troy. Brad Pitt just screamed Golden God. Depp was just... loopy.

I concur--^

Somehow, the words 'oozing' and 'attractive' don't quite go together in my mind..

Hugh Jackman's badass factor > Brad Pitt's badass factor... just maybe not in these two movies.

I've yet to see either one.

Brad Pitt's badassness and sexy assness outweighs Jackman's assness squared in Van Helsing by about 8,000.

Just got back from seeing Troy with some people from my Latin class, and I thought it was pretty good. The bit where Aeneas showed up was hilarious. He's supposed to be a Trojan hero about to have great adventures and found Rome, and he's some 13 year old with an unbroken voice... (He was the guy Paris gave the sword to at the end). There were some other strange liberties taken, like Briseis being Paris' cousin (she was, in fact, taken as a prize by Achilles after he slaughtered her family and husband...). Also Agamemnon was supposed to be killed by his wife when he returned to Greece, and Menelaus actually reunited with Helen eventually, making the whole damn war pointless!

Still liked it though...

If you like this stuff just for the battle scenes and stuff. I recamend getting the books...... The Wanderings od Odysseus, and Black Ships Before Troy, they have awsome full color illistrations on every page, by Alan Lee.
THe guy who along with John Howle did alot of the concept art for LOTR (movie). And has done numorous LOTE paintings before the movies on LOTR.

I saw troy with my friends last night, and it was an awesome movie.

Pitt totally kicked a** as Archilles.

When paris ran away during his fight, I started laughing and the rest of the theatre soon followed.

I understand that this movie may seem historically inaccurate and may not correspond with what Homer wrote in the Illiad, but does that make it not good? The Last Samurai was not really historically accurate yet it is still a hell of a movie. Gladiator is a work of fiction, but that doesn't make it bad does it?

------------------
I don't think you really want to read this anyway.
2004-05-22, 11:07 PM #73
Gladiator sucked entirely for the reason that it was historically inaccurate. They bloody well restored the Roman Republic at the end of the movie! That would be like having a WW2 movie end with the Nazis dropping an atomic bomb on New York... And that was only the most major error it had (that "evil" emperor didn't die in the ring, bla bla bla). Plus it was just a dull movie...

Troy wasn't nearly as bad as Gladiator because, well, the Iliad is fiction, anyway, and they didn't change the outcome, really; Troy still burned, Achilles died, etc etc.
