GT4 looks totally unimpressive to me. To anything even remotely resembling a trained eye you can see how the whole thing is just a pile of poorly stitched photorapes. I'm sure it'll look absolutely magnificent when it gets moved to a tiny screen, but on a full-sized screenshot it looks ugly as sin. I have no idea what you guys are talking about when you say it's photorealistic.

And yeah, compared to the PS2 and the Gamecube the Xbox is downright photorealistic - even in a first gen title like Halo. Just in terms of hardware, my PS2 looks like complete crap on my HDTV and the Gamecube - while sharp and otherwise beautiful - still runs at 420p. The Xbox is the only console that can even make a claim to run at HDTV resolutions (720p) and the simple fact that it has the graphics pushing power to do so is pretty indicative of how much more that console can do than the competition.

The rest is just artwork, which - of course - is something that Xbox games tend to lack (to my knowledge, anyway).

And other than the fact that the X-Box has a lot of the worst "best-selling" titles ever made, it's a good system. Sorry, but I prefer PS2 games and GC games over X-Box games anyday. I don't care HOW good the graphics are (even though GC graphics are superior at regular screen size, not HD. A lot of people say that much).

Just to note, that first picture of mine is from a PS2 game. However, please don't turn this into a console wars thread. I want this thread to be a celebration of how surperior our technology has gotten over the year.

Yeah the texturing in that shot is pretty brutal. I still think it looks damn realistic at a glance though, and the car in the first one is beautiful.

Yeah there's problems with the GT4 shots, but IMO they're the easiest to mistake for real at first glance

Just to correct your confusion, I'm a Gamecube and PS2 owner. I agree in that an Xbox isn't worth buying just so I can get some play out of my widescreen HDTV, but it's still a valid mark against both of my consoles.

Of course, I'm still using the cables that came boxed with my PS2. I'll have to post an update after I bother buying a component cable and another optical audio cable.

I second that... eugh.
