Space exploration as it is now:

Yay we just built a 500 million dollar satellite to... TAKE PICTURES OF JUPITER! Yay! How useful!

*Launches rocket*

Oh, (bleep) forgot to convert to Metric. There's another 500,000,000 down the toilet.

Taking pictures of Jupiter helps us understand how that planet is created, gas giants in general are created, why they're different from our planet, why the storm rages endlessly, etc etc.

See, Yoshi, the awesome part is: We can advance that very same computer technology by researching it right here on earth. There is no need to crater a 500k satellite on mars because, surprise, we didn't do enough research.

It's sort of a viscious cycle if we use your rationale.

That's because the people at NASA can be IDIOTS at times. But that's just scientists in general--absentmindedness.

But I'm not scrambling...I mean there's tons to be learned about space, even stuff that we don't know we need to learn yet (especially as far as unexplained matter and debris go). We're just working (slowly but surely) on a solution to getting further out into the universe. I'd say our first major obstacle is going to be getting past the Oort cloud with a vehicle. After that...well it's all gravy pretty much, until we need a better propulsion system.

I'm honestly really excited to see if they figure out just what "Dark Matter" is within my lifetime. Stuff like that could change our world as we know it--or be insanely interesting and insanely useless. Rob, I'm sorry, but you're just too close-minded to see the blazing opportunities that lie in space. Think about it...oh wait, that's not your forte, making insanely unfunny, cliche, stupid-sounding insults is. Then get back to that.
If you call exploration of space which advances technology, knowledge, not to mention forces innovations for newer and more durable communications technologies (think, as we push the boundaries of our solar system we have to think of some way to transmit stuff wirelessly, which is where the big push in computer tech is right now) is piddly, sure, it's just piddly bs.
It's usually pretty easy to tell when someone has to SCRAMBLE to make a point, and thats what you just did.

I think she deserved it. "There's already a cure for cancer" Honestly!

It would be cool if we developed propellant or "plasma" drives, like in 2001 and 2010.

I have a strong distaste for humanity as well, but you were just being an *******. There's a big difference between a "pre-emptive strike" and calling someone a moron because they have different beliefs, which you didn't even let her explain, no matter how wrong they may be. And why exactly do you feel betrayed? It's not like she brutally murdered your parents, she just disagreed with you.

Furthermore, if I'm reading correctly, you don't even know this girl offline, let alone have anything remotely resembling a relationship with her. So what's the big deal?
2005-09-01, 9:08 PM #52
Yeah, I gotta say I don't get the whole betrayed thing either.
So you met a girl online who's a bit of a nut-job, so what?

We really need to let this thread die... hell I already e-mailed the girl and apologized for being an ***; we've decided to just forget about this incident.

Though if you guys want to keep arguing about space travel, by all means go ahead.

You're never going to gain entry to her...virgin, talking like that. Some girls find it kinky when you insult them and then brag about destroying them on a public forum, but my guess is that she isn't one of them. Move on and learn from this experience.
