The biggest problem with ethanol as it stands is that it isn't a source of energy, its more of a carrier of energy. It still takes more energy to produce a barrel of ethanol than we can derive from that same barrel. Until they develop a way to produce ethanol more efficiently, it really isn't a great solution.

Gas went from $2.50 to $3.15 overnight. That is 100% BULLSH*T! There should be a law that the price of gas cannot change until a new shipment comes in. If you get a shipment of gas, give it a price, don't just walk outside and change the price overnight. That makes no sense.
Think while it's still legal.

That doesn't necessarily preclude ethanol from being a solution.

They need to make enough profit from the last shipment to pay for the next one. So if the price goes up they do need to raise their prices.

A product is worth exactly what people are willing to pay for it.

In this case, it doesnt apply.

What do want commuters that commute from Evans, GA to Atlanta to do every day? Call in work to say that gas is just too darn high for them to come? Our society has become one in which gasoline ranks right up there with water and food to keep buisness and community running smoothly, to the point where people in GA can gouge prices because they know people HAVE to pay for them.

Some of my friends (and I'm seriously considering this too) who live in Atlanta actually have called in to their jobs and said that the price of gas is too high to justify coming into work that day and in some cases the boss agreed.

I cant justify driving 30 miles to work (even if my car does get 30mpg) to get paid $9/hour when I'm paying $3.15 for gas. (if you do the math, it means I'm only earning $3/hr which is complete ****)

Well, if I do the math, it would be more like:

Your vehichle gets around 15mpg.
60 miles would deplete your fuel reserves by 4 gallons.
4 gallons of gas in the worst-case scenario would cost roughly $24.00 in Atlanta.
I'll assume your shift is 8 hours long.
In one night, you make roughly $72.00.
24 is 1/3 of 72.

So, it turns out to be exactly $6.00/hr rather than three (with crappy mpg and high prices even).

Still, that sucks. :p

Heh, I guess our gas up north in British Columbia, Canada is cheap at 109.5 a litre.
