If you are having a discussion, and someone asks you to back up your claim, please do not tell them to google it and "they'll find out." Hey, you're the one that knows it's out there; you ****ing google it. Show me the link and I'll believe you.

I'm not going to google for your beliefs. Give me a handful of links and I'll read over them, but if you just tell me to google it, that translates into: Hi. I have nothing to back up what I just said, so I'm going to tell you to go find the proof, since I don't have any.

STOP!

How about no.

I'm too god damn lazy to be bothered to post a link.

Too lazy? Do you have a reliable source for that?

I usually tell people to look it up themselves because I have better things to do than look around on the internet to prove to someone on the internet that i don't really care about nor will I ever meet, that my opinion is right. If they think otherwise, fine, good for them. If they want proof that my claim may or may not be correct, that's fine as well. But they can spend their useless time looking for that proof, not me.
2005-09-08, 9:45 AM #6
Bill's point is that if you're going to make an argument and stand by it, "go look for it" is a very, very weak argument, and he's right. If you think you have better things to do, you should have either not participated in the debate or clearly let the other party know that you don't care.

On an unrelated note, Bill, in the part of your sig that says, "Learn it; know it; spell it correctly damnit!" the proper spelling for "damnit" is "dammit."

Yeah, I could say it's just a joke, but, heh, yeah it sure as hell is spelled wrong.

No **** sherlock. But my point is that whether or not I participate in a debate, I make it clear many times before in previous posts, as well as when I am active in the debate (unless I really care about it) that I really don't care.

If you don't care about your position, why make it?

1. I like to state my opinion

2. I like how people get so frazzled around here if anything objects to their opinions

3. When I state my opinion in real life in an actual argument with someone, I will back it up. If it's on the internet, I'll state it if I feel like it, and back it up if I feel like it. If I don't feel like backing itup, or if someone challenges me to and I don't really care to, I'll say "go look it up yourself". Basically, what it comes down to, is if I really care to argue and prove myself to the person I am arguing with. If I feel like it, I will do so, if I don't, I won't. Deal.

It's not really so much that people get frazzled. Well, some people do, but it's more that no one will take you seriously if all you do is spout off random stuff that has no basis and make huge jumps in logic and thinking that make no sense what so ever.

I'd rather get them to google it then for THEM to get something that THEY want without any effort on THEIR part. If I happen to know a very reliable source for something, then I'll post that link (if I have it memorized or bookmarked) But if I got what they want from google, I'll just tell them what I typed up into google.

Haha. Making a really stupid goddamn claim like "UNICORNS LIVE ON THE MOON" and telling everybody "Le durr, if you don't believe me LOOK IT UP YOURSELF" is a great way to make them consume their time.

Because they'll never ****ing find your proof, because it doesn't exist. "Oh, you just didn't find it" you'll say.

If you tried this with me in real life, I'd use a stapler gun to perforate your face.

:p

Believe me, I mean no offense by it.

Often times, I get in bad moods, and just like to piss people off.

Often times, I like to get into arguments and then half way through the argument I get too lazy to look up information.

Basically, what I mean by "I dont care what people here think" doesnt mean that I think you're all a bunch of idiots, or whatnot. It's more like, I don't care what a bunch of people on the internet that I've never met, nor will ever meet, think about me and my opinions.

It's kinda hard to put it in a non-offensive way, but I truly don't mean it to offend people. I hope you know what I mean.

You need to back up your claims by yourself. If you let Google or other secondary sources do it for you, it is irrelevent because it doesn't perfectly fit *you*. State your reasons, or don't post at all.

My opinions. If you don't agree with me, google it.

I'm not going to great lengths. I don't really see how you can consider writing a reply that takes literally 2 minutes to write to people other than yourself "great lengths".

Temp, I'm sorry if I came off as bashing you, your post merely reminded me of several ridiculous encounters I've had with people who, apparently, really REALLY don't care about anything except telling the world about this zen-like nonchalance. I was instead posting more concerning the trend, less your behavior.

I agree with what Grismath says. This post isn't to bash you Temp... but I think to be heard, give reason rather than forcing people to find it themselves. Otherwise they'll ignore you all-together.
