I don't read spiderman, but I heard three things. Not sure which if any is true.

1. Venom is a messed up clone of spiderman, and Topher kind of looks like Toby.
2. Venom is that guy Mary Jane almost married. So why would they cast another actor to play him?
3. Venom isn't in spiderman 3, it's a rumor.

That first one isn't true at all. Well, sort of, but Venom itself isn't a person, Eddy Brock gets attacked by Venom.

Wait, I'm mixed up. Carnage is a clone of Venom right?

carnage is the spawn of venom from when spidey sent the venom costume into space on the shuttle. Carnage spawned from Venom in space before it was sent back to Eddy.

If I remember right that is.

True, But Spiderman originally got his powers from radioactive spider, not a genically-altered Spider. I could see the first one being true. Why? Because I don't see how they'd make the symbiote since it did come from space originally. And since they seem to be keeping the movies in some sort of reality, I could honestly see them doing the clone thing instead.

Venom is an alien symbiot that spawns from Peter's "dark side" [something to do with the dark world or whatever. I could get my comics. The show was actually a better translation of that section of spiderman] who basically unleashes the whole symbiot wave of enemies with Carnage, who [correct me if I'm wrong] comes through some dark portal that some bad guy opens up. Then the skull-dude tries to reopen a portal to unleash the evil [or was it to get back to the dark world?] and they end up tossing him, the symbiots, and eddie brock into the portal.

Then there's the entire Symbiot Spidy... god that comic book was good.

Why would he play Venom? Why not...? Also, who's to say Spiderman's not in it or anything? That just showed the new villains (one of which shouldn't be surprising in the least, but still).

Eddie Brock is a big jock that beats people up and whatnot. That dude has always, and will always, play some nerd in some random movie, or on a pretty good sitcom. He's NO Eddie Brock.

Ok, I'll admit, I'm not up on all the comic books. And I'm sure things are different in the Ultimate Spider-man Comics, but I'll stay out of there and with what I know, which is the TV show.

The original 3 parter was when they were bring back that sample from the moon I believe on the space shuttle. The symbiote was on some of the samples they were bring back and caused the shuttle to crash. Rhino went and stole the item, and Spiderman went to save the astronauts. The symbiote gets on his Spiderman outfit and eventually takes him as it's host. But the symbiote was trying to take him over completely, because as you watch, you see Peter getting cockier and angrier all the time. When he finally gets it off of him, it take Brock, who hates Spiderman as much as the symbiote does. And Vemon has all his powers as it copied them from Spiderman. That's what I got from it all anyway.

Now Spiderman, as we know, attached the symbiote to the shuttle and had it sent back into space. Mordo(sp?) Summons them back for the big fiery guy as it was about to reproduce. Vemon is back and Carnage is soon created through Cassidy. Vemon runs off after he completes his part of the deal, but Carnage stays around to help them get the life energy they need to open the portal to bring Mr. Fiery dude into our world. After a battle, the Fiery dude gets sent back, but has a link to Carnage, so they have to send him through. He trys to pull in this one Doctor that Brock likes, so he sacrifices himself to protect her and is sent into the portal as well.

And the humor in all of this? Yesterday morning and this morning on Jetex, they showed each part of the 2-parter with Carnage in it. ^_^

But I do agree (as you posted later) that the Actor playing Vemon is NO Eddie Brock.

Ah yes, that's jogging my memory now.

The comic had a few major differences, but the best was the Symbiot Spidey... oh man. THAT was some kickass comic....ing?

Absolute WORST casting I have EVER heard of in my life. Absolutly destroys my psychy to think about that....just sooo stupid..

Donna from that seventies show reminds me more of MJ. Or maybe... hmmm..... yeah, but that's probably because of the newer spiderman comics that give her less of a Damsel persona and more of an *** kicker persona with a goodie-two-shoes overtone.

Venom is freakin huge. Topher Grace is a really, really skinny guy. I doubt he has the metabolism to put on a whole lot of muscle at all. At best he will gain a bit of muscle, but theres no way he will be even close to as big as venom is supposed to be! This along with his personality just make it the stupidest decision ever. Topher is the geeky, weak, funny guy. He just doesn't fit the part in any way shape or form. I mean, just listen to his voice!!! Can you imagine VENOM with topher grace's voice?? It would be ridiculous!!

Well with the voice you might have a point, but if he were to build up like norton did and act right he might just pull it off if the script takes care of the rest.

God, for Venom, I would ahve expected... well, for starters, the fiancee from part 2. But, I guess, if they were gonna go with more of a clone or dark side thing... Well, the choice is obvious, isn't it?

By the way, this is ALL speculation.
No one is sure exactly if any of these roles are correct, and most people are assuming that Topher is in fact playing "The Chameleon", as the director (Raimi or whatever) has said he doesnt care for the Venom characther, not to mention the symbiote thing doesnt match up with the realistic universe attempting to be displayed in the Spiderman movies.

(Which is why the sandman might not be in the movie either, we'll see)
