Sax, by about a million miles. The only point made so far that redeems trombones was what smock said about ska, they do sound damn good there. But then so do saxes.

I remember being about 11 and watching top of the pops, and seeing a female saxophonist supporting some singer (sting or someone like that) and going "that's what I want to do!!"

of course, it turned out I suck and my sax is still sitting in a cupboard (yes, we've tried to sell it)

What kind of sax is it? (I vaguely recall us having this conversatin before, but I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed onto my neck.)

They're both awesome instruments. I personally play the sax-machine though so I guess it technically gets my vote (though I'm not voting)

I've been playing Tenor sax for 5 years now. I was contemplating playing trombone for marching band this year, but then our director made a *** move and decided to make all the boners play baritone when they march.
The main reason I wanted to was because I have a rather heavy sax and it's a real pain to hold at attention.

"Cool" is a relative term by nature to a sly effect, so I would say Sax is better. But both are great, since I'm interested in Swing Dancing now...and swing music just keeps me goin'.
