The phrase "rap music" just bothers me.

I've always considered rap to be more a form of spoken word, rather than actual music. So whenever someone says "rap music" all I hear is "word music." In modern times, this reminds me of Bjork's new album... which sucked, hard.

Also, rap is too big and broad of a genre for one to simply hate all rap. Thats like hating all country, when Johnny Cash is just so god damn awesome. Also, those people aren't considering the certifiable awesomeness that was The Jayhawks. Statements like that tend to make you look like an uncultured idiot, end of story.

I wouldn't even call that rap. Good song tho.

I like rap that doesn't sing about ***, ****, ****ing, drugs, and *******.

Which narrows it down to the few rap I'm exposed to...Faithless and Handsome Boy Modeling School.

That's rap...Alias is most definitely a rap group.

I still say most people who 'hate rap' don't have anything to go off of other than 50 cent and Ja Rule and all that stupid crap.

Can't people get off this debate about wether or not rap sucks or not? [Which most does.]
nope.

Rap is a genre of music. If you think it sucks, good for you. Shut up. If you think it's good, good for you. Shut up.

I win. Someone hand me a medal.

Oh I'm fine with that. It's when you say it takes no talent, no skills, no ANYTHING to create and is inferior to other musical forms that I get mad.

And Boco--not even most rap sucks. Just all popular crap.

It's hip-hop. It could just as easily be used with rap vocals as the singer, and lots of rappers do sing as well.

Look at it this way--if people here went around saying anyone who played videogames is a loser with no life who needs to get laid, wouldn't you feel compelled to argue the point every once in a while?
And Boco--not even most rap sucks. Just all popular crap.
I'd like to contest this point. I'd say about 10% of any genre is good.

Except for Techno. :P

Anyway, Yoshi, It's just my opinion that most raps sucks. It's not my kind of music.

See, here's where I don't get it. I don't see how people can interpret "sucking" to be the same as "not being their kind of music."

Example: I don't really enjoy listening to country music. It's "not my kind of music," so to speak. But do I think it sucks? No. I think it's an artistically rich, valid form of expression and there are a lot of talented people who play country music. I'm sure it has a fascinating history. I just don't particularly like listening to it, but there are many people who do and I am sure their musical "taste" is as respectable as anyone else's (anyone else who doesn't listen to crappy music anyway).
2005-09-18, 10:09 AM #61
Koobie, I don't think you'll have everything in common. And if you do, it would suck because it would be boring. If you're looking for a girl that would play video games at least, there's a lot everywhere. Especially Chicago. But don't worry; there's always someone out there for ya.

So you're saying the Sims expansion pack that adds 3 clothing items that sells better than, say, JK ever did deserved its popularity? I don't. It's just marketing techniques...EA has good marketing, and so do popular rap artists. Doesn't mean they're good, they're just marketed better.

I am playing video games tonight instead of reading Paradise Lost. Paradise lost is no doubt a higher quality, more enduring, more meaningful, and more important work than any video game... Rap may not be as high quality music as classical orchestral stuff, but if people enjoy it, more power to them.

I'm not sure if that's clear...

It's all invalid, however, if you're point is that some people are just listening to a certain type of music because of the image they're trying to capture for themselves or because they think it's good simply because they're told so. That is kinda lame.
