Now how much is this game going to rock? They say we'll have it in mid November. I don't believe it, but here's hoping.

Most recent estimate is July 2nd, judging by what Wal-Mart says on it's order page. It probably isn't very accurate, but valve said they were aiming to release this summer, soo...

And I dunno about you, but HL2 gfx do not appeal to me anymore...

Yeah, Gabe said at E# that it was going to be released "this summer", so I'm pretty psyched. i wasn't at hyped about it as I was during the summer last year, it isn't all THAT groundbreaking anymore with game's like FarCry veing released and setting up the par. Nevertheless,it's going to be amazing we hope, at least technologicly.

I wasn't really too crazy about it anymore either. Then I heard that the new demo from E3 totally stole the show about ten fold over everything else. So now I'm pretty psyched. I had my brother download the video for me cause he's still in school (he has broadband... like I used to... until the semester ended... and I moved back home... I'm gonna cry). Oh man I can't wait to watch this thing tonight to see what all the comotion is about. I'll be sure to post comments later about it.

And as far as how fast your machine needs to be... Well it runs just fine (meaning 50 or so fps) on a Amd Athlon Xp 2500+ overclocked to 2.2 Ghz with a Radeon 9500 128 MB and 512 MB of ddr ram. How I know this, I beg you not to ask.

Except the final version will undoubtedly run faster than the leaked beta.

Well guys, all I can say is wow. I just watched the video. And... It's just the most amazing video game I have ever seen. Not just in terms of looks, but it just looks like there is no way a videogame will ever be made that is more fun than this one. The vehicles... The weapons... I mean... wow.

Unfortunately no one can be told what the matri... er gameplay is, you have to see it for yourself.

I'm not, because of Doom 3.

And why do people STILL think FarCry is as good as or better than HL2 and Doom 3? It's not. At all. It's not even close. And anyone who's not played it, don't argue with me, PLEASE. It does you no good when you don't know what you're talking about.

Does Far Cry have all the same physics and interaction that HL2 is advertised to have?

Part of me wants to get it 'cause it's Half Life and the other half wants to piss around with the physics.

Didn't Shenmue do the whole "mostly interactive" thing about 3 years ago?

Not even close. And Shenmue couldn't have done as good a job as Half-Life 2 will.

Yeah but Shenmue was highly interactive, just in a lot of useless ways. Good game still though. I liked it alot. Great story, it just doesn't have an ending.

So far, Half-Life 2 looks like it will be astonishingly better than Doom 3. And I'm not even that terribly excited about HL2.

Yeah but he is right. For some reason I have this prediction that Doom 3 is going to be a really shallow game. Plus no one really seems to care about it anymore. I don't think it's going to do as well as Half Life 2. Also with all the "new" stuff that's going into Doom 3, I don't think it's going to well up enough nostalgia from people like me to really pay due to its predecessors. I want to fight cyber demons and mechanical spiders and stuff of that nature. It looks like they got the enemies in Doom 3 from the Serious Sam reject pile. I don't know why but when I see the bad guys in that game I think "Hey this is like a less cool version of that thing from Serious Sam." Then again I'm sure we'll be able to say that about much in Doom 3. Maybe it looks a little better, but my gut tells me that it's going to be the same pointless shooting that was Serious Sam, just really shiny with very stylized lighting... And... Where are the cyber demons... I want an E3 presentation where the marine walks through a door, *cyber demon*... credits. That would win so many best of e3 awards it's unreal. Just show us what it's going to look like, if it's even going to be there.

This rant was brought to you by the letter A.

Did Doom even have a story? (And I mean the game itself, not the apparent book series based after the game)

Hell on Earth, you kick *** .

But I love people who haven't played Doom 3 who judge it. So fun. I know the only way to play it was, for most, illegal (I believe some people in Mass played it at Quakecon?), but if you DID take advantage of it...well let's just say it put me straight [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif].

Meh. Doom 3 seems to be fitting the mold of 'id makes engines, other people make games.' It's a great game technology-wise, but I have my doubts as to whether or not the gameplay will be anything to write home about.
2004-05-22, 8:38 AM #33
Quake 4 is where the goods will be from ID if you ask me... as long as its more comparable to Quake 2, as opposed to yet another repetitive arena game.

Somebody please quote me and rip this comment to shreds to enlighten my opinion.

I like Quake 1, and 2 equally, but 3 just can't compare.

Hahaha Quake 4. What's that going to be? Quake 3 on the Doom 3 engine? I doubt I'll be impressed. Or are they making yet another engine for a game that won't be out for 6 years? At least Valve had the common decency to keep HL2 a secret for 5 years until it was almost done.

Yes, and then they push back the release date so many times that I'm not excited anymore. Go Valve!

No, they are returning to the world of Quake 1/2 and moving away arena gameplay. Raven is developing it (SOF1/2, JO/JA)
