Once. They pushed the release date back ONCE. It was a large push, but it was still only one.

Yes, and I guess all these people with Beta copies of the game just magically came across a disc with a game that was exactly like HL2...

The whole source code theft is a shame but... there's no way you can say HL2 was ready to come out on Sept 30. It was delayed because it wasn't done, no matter how much they told us it was.

Haha yes it was definately a cop-out. Trust me on this one. The beta just got leaked and they decided to fabricate it so they wouldn't just say "Hey sorry guys it's delayed." If it was really delayed for the hacker reasons then the beta would have been damn near complete? And trust me, it wasn't, but the engine was decently polished... few bugs here and there... physics.... ahhhhhhhhhh....... er... at least it looks that way from the e3 video.

it has a "story so far" as in what leads to you being there... you assaulted an officer now you are on mars... bad stuff happens you are sent in.. you hear screams over the radio... grab pistol, run into base, start game

the first book really expands on all that...

actually shenmue will have an ending eventually... it was just chapter 1 in a series of games... shenmue 2 picks up where 1 left off

Ok, hackers stealing the code is a weak excuse for holding it back 14 months, but obviously thats not the sole reason.
Do you really think they finished making it and though "Hmm, lets annoy everybody by just sitting on this for another year"
Half Life 2 looks great and I can't wait to play it, but if they wanna take more time to do it right then they should.
Theres nothing worse then a potentially good game screwed up because it was rushed to meet a deadline, Enter The Matrix anyone?

According to the Doug Lombardi interview from gamespy, They admit they wouldn't have been able to make September 30th anyway, but then when they realized the code had been leaked, it really killed the morale for the rest of the team.

But regardless of what happened, that doesn't change the fact that it's going to be an amazing game. Personally, I think the delays are a good thing (as mentioned before, the more they delay it, the better the final product will be.)

If you replaced the argument with whether we landed on the moon, you'd get pretty much get the same responses. And I thought I was cynical...

OK, it looked unlikely to hit September 30th. It didn't mean that it still had 14 months of development left to do. I would have expected early November release, a spiffy game and a botched Steam. Now, we have leaked code, a set of spiffy code being uberspiffified and waves upon waves of disgruntled fans. The hack was the reason of the extra 13 months of delay, but the original was Valve.
