Thanks for making me feel like a complete nerd just because I watch 12 out of the top 15 shows on a regular to semi-regular basis. (And a good heeping of the other 35)

When I read the question, I wasn't sure, but immediately when I saw Babylon 5 among the options, the choice was clear.

Normally I'd say Star Trek... but I've discovered Firefly in the last few years. 14 episodes of a failed series changed my mind after being a trekkie since the age of 7, a trekkie since the TNG days.

While Firefly (and a number of those other shows for that matter) are freakin' awesome, I still love Star Trek (the franchise as a whole, not any specific series) and it's general perception of the future as BETTER, and not WORSE like many other sci-fi stories. Firefly, Twilight Zone, Sliders and Futurama would definately be good second-placers each for their own reasons. I haven't watch enough (or cared enough) about the other series out there, though I'd like to see Red Dwarf at some point.

Red Dwarf. It just plain rocks. Theres stuff in there I wouldn't have considered sci-fi like The Man From UNCLE. I guess it is. That show rocked too :D

Sliders was just a cheap, crappy ripoff of Quantum Leap.
QL was great because it didn't spend much time trying to explain the mechanics of leaping, it was quite clear from the start that it was 'God' doing everything, which basically gave them carte blanche to do anything they wanted, and because they had such good writers every episode was like a very compact good movie. In Sliders, however, they just bastardise quantum mechanics and general relativity to make the whole concept sound pseudoscientific.
And, as opposed to QL where Sam had to do something in order to leap, in Sliders they just have to wait around for some time and they just happen to get into an exciting yet arbitrary adventure every single time.

And X-Files, oh man.

The defining sci-fi series of the 90s, of course, but oh man did it stretch on. It wouldn't have been that bad if the over-arching storyline hadn't been revealed in season 5 (the alien colonisation of Earth, the alien-human hybrids and the vaccination against the alien disease). Season 6 did have loads of excellent non-storyline episodes (like the double episode where Mulder switches places with the government dude), and Robert Patrick is an excellent dude, but the storyline went... nowhere.. And that stupid New Age 'spiritual' woman was like a naive version of Mulder.
And of course, the final episode was possibly the biggest letdown of anything.. ever.. Oh man.

That was a rant that just had to be let out.

Tough choice between X-Files and Stargate. It came down to X-Files had 2 crappy seasons, and Stargate has only had one (and a half ... so far).

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATRE 3000 > *.

Sorry guys (stargate).

Battlestar Galactica is really good. Like, really good. Like so good I almost voted for it. But I didn't because it was so good. Just too good. And too much good is bad. Good needs to be spreaded. Like butter.

You're making me choose between Stargate and Firefly? That's evil. I can't do it.

The Next Generation by far.

X-Files a close second, until they started getting silly and away fromt heir roots of sci-fi (aliens, etc, i.e. - The last few seasons)

SeaQuest DSV :D

News to you X-Files freaks that some of you may or may not know..

There is a sequel movie in the works. I cannot remember however if it is almost in production, or actually currently in production.

I vote other. Guess what for. Lee Majors. Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na.
nope.
2005-09-25, 1:03 PM #31
Definately Stargate. I honestly can't think of any outright bad episodes. Which is mainly why I chose it over Firefly. Not saying that there were bad episodes of Firefly, just that 8 (and a half) good seasons > 1 good season.
2005-09-25, 1:20 PM #32
AHH THERE'S TOO MANY!!!!!!

I want Farscape, Seaquest (DSV, not 2032), Stargate, Sliders, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, AND MORE!!!

It's not really anywhere near production. The major characters have all agreed to do one, but nothing has been written.

SOme are awful, but there are some really good ones on that list. Some of them would have been amazing if they had a chance to develop a little bit.
