That's no squid, that's a space station!
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

You need to take note that it was the first giant squid to be photographed in its natural habitat and healthy. Of course, previous pictures were of smaller squids. They were photographed in captivity before.

Still cool nonetheless, supposedly that seeing this creature in action changed the beliefs of scientists, stating the squid to be a slow, and dumb-witted. Supposedly that this creature used its tentacles like whips and was a ferocious predator.

Awesome.

I always was curious about the mysterious animals of the deep sea.

Awesome! I'm a bit of a natural history and zoology nerd in my spare time and nothing is more fascinating than those creatures out there that we know next to nothing about. They may as well be an alien species. To my knowledge they'd only ever found dead washed up specimens or caught them in nets, which, by the time they reach the surface, were dying already. In fact about the only things they knew for sure was their anatomy and diet (from studying stomach contents). Apparently they're cannibals, which must be a sight to see!

I'm sure I saw a documentary on this...Maybe it was octupus. Either way the creatures were extremely aggresive and deadly. They attacked anything that came near them with huge force. Including divers and the camera.

If it took that long to photograph one, we'd going to have a realy hard time killing them off. Not to mention it's probably protected by 50,000 laws. This isn't going to die off.

lol, soon we'll be breeding giant squids in zoos so we can keep them from being "endangered species" ...

Sperm whales supossidly feed on these things, and they have found sucker marks on Sperm whales. Can you IMAGINE the battles between these two HUGE creatures? I bet nothing would compare.

But having such a big penis does have one drawback: it seems that co-ordinating eight legs, two feeding tentacles and a huge penis, whilst fending off an irate female, is a bit too much to ask

no... "The giant squid can reach up to 18 metres in length and weigh up to 900kg." The squid itself is 18 m. not the penis.
