Anyone else find it annoying when people use AOLamer speak when they are typing an email or forum post?

I personally can't stand it when people do that. Its understandable to do that in a real time chat situation like in a game or in a chat room because of speed but, IMO, doing it in a forum post / email is annoying because you have all the time in the world to type out you post / email.

I'll admit, using it to shorten phases I don't have a problem with (such as asap, btw, imo, etc.) but going as far as typing "ok man u dont no me and i dont no u" in a email / post is REALLY annoying.

Anyone else feels this way or am I just being a bit too demanding about this?

Edit: Changed "leet" to "AOLamer" for clarification

I do. The only person I tolerate it from is my g/f because she emails me from work and has to make it quick.

Leet speak h45 nu|\/|b3r5 and such. And for me, it's not faster to type that way.

Although, I can't believe how thrown off people are when I write notes at school in leet and they fall into wrong hands.

It's hilarious to watch them try to sound things out.

It's not about typing faster (acronyms aside, they're fine), it's about showing how pathetic your life is that you have to use numbers to type so only other losers can read it.

The only time I'll ever consider typing shorthand like that is when I'm gaming. In an online game I don't have time to time every single letter most of the time (though I still end up doing it and dying).

slightly fancy :), but not hand coded like I'm assuming yours is. Just made the theme from kubrik and did alot of the hacks/plugins I'm using. Is yours php or static html? I forgot...*click*

Sarn's post is what I consider proper leet; some letters are replaced with symbols or numbers, and no letter gets replaced with more than 1 character. Modified common words (pr0n, t3h, junk like that) made their way into the vernacular over time and are basically acceptable, although kinda lame. Their post was readable at full speed, as opposed to that garbage Freelancer posted elsewhere in the thread.

I prefer numeric leet (where only a handful of letters are replaced with symbols, so that typing it is nearly as fast as normal typing because you don't need shift at all, like in Freelancer's second to newest post) personally.

That being said, internet shorthand (apparently also known as AOLamer?) is really obnoxious and is only barely appropriate in multiplayer FPS's where time is critical. In most games (especially MMOGs) communicating is tightly integrated with the game and so it's not that hard to get everything typed out properly within any given time window. Using shorthand with Instant Messenging, let alone e-mails or message board posts, is ridiculous.

Uhh... so I voted "Yeah, its annoying!"
