Best Video Game Voice Acting?
2005-10-03, 7:31 AM #1
I’d have to say Half-Life 2. Along with an great storyline, it uses in game voices and side-segments instead of cutscenes, giving that first person effect. The voices are real, and emotional, I seriously thought that rebel girl (what’s her name, your love intreast?) is yelling at the girl doctor who is a spy, was some of the best VG acting I have ever seen or heard. Anyone agree this is the best?

I thought most of the protoss and some of the terran units and Kerrigan did a pretty good job in SC. In JO, desann did pretty good.

Sacrifice. It was surreal, but the characters seemed genuinely involved with what they were talking about. The context is that the entire plot is being told as a story by the main character after it as has happened, so when you fail a level and have to reload he says, "Of course, that's not what really happened. Let me start again."

I'm tempted to nominate XIII just because it had Adam West. :)

The Splinter Cell has some pretty darn good voice acting. I remember hearing the conversation between the police-man and the civillian in the police station level in the first game for the first time. I was very impressed.

Also, the conversations between Sam and 3rd Echelon are great.

Hrm I'll think of it at some random moment.

I hear Fahrenheit has good voice-acting and dialogue.

Grim Fandango (Hey kids, check out my BONE SAW! Run you pigeons, it's Robert Frost!), The Curse of Monkey Island, Mafia, The Thief series, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (before he went angsty, he went from snob to noble, and had some witty repartee with the princess), and The Legacy of Kain series (excluding the first one).
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Yeah, Splinter Cell was good. JO also, the random banter you'd come across among stormtroopers, as well as actual characters like Desann.

Not really. I wouldn't rate the voice actors for the imperial officers as great.

Freelancers voice acting was pretty good. The cutscenes were good and the background radio chatter was equally good. :) Some of the conversations in the bars and stuff could have been better though.

Aliens vs Predator 2 has some great voice acting. Top notch quality, whether it was swearing, wimpering in a corner, or just general banter. There were some hialrious jokes in that game as well if you listened out for them, esepcially in the first Alien level when you're a facehugger. The best horror game of all time in my opinion.

Not enough people have played Metal Gear Solid (I saw only one mention of it).

It definitley has the best voice acting I've heard. Some lines are cheesy, but that's more of the writers fault.

Reminds me of Zelda: OoT. Its the good thing Link has good voice acting. I often make Link roll around across the ground about 90% of the time while I'm making long walks.

One of my favorite groupings of dialouge EVER is in Chaos Theory during the Morgenholt mission.

Get to where he's being tortured and kill the terrorists, then pull the rifle and put one round in his head.

Quote:
Fisher: *mutters* Gah... stinks...

*BANG*
Lambert: Sam! What are you doing!?
Fisher: Making sure he's not suffering.
Lambert: Well leaving NATO rounds in his body isn't going to look good. Leave the evidence alone and get moving.
Fisher: On my way.

*enter the room*

Lambert: It doesn't sound to good down there, Fisher.
Fisher: The sound isn't the problem, you should smell it.
Lambert: You're sure he's dead?
Fisher: Deader than Elvis.
Lambert: Alright, leave the body. We still need to recover any traces of the interrogation. Grim will call you back.

Hearing those two interchanges together is just hilarious to me. :D

I was also going to mention this. This games also had John Rhys-Davies in the voice acting cast, and as can be imagined, he did spledid work. Most of the bar conversations were butchered literally as they were composed of separate pieces stuck together to suit the current situation (the person speaking, that is).

Half-Life 2, definately in the entertainment value.

Got to mention Deus Ex too, even though the foreign (chinese, french) voice acting is a bit uh, it's still really realistic. People do not have oh-so exciting voices in real life either.
