Well my friends...looks like Nintendo has claimed 2004 Game of the Year, and looks to have locked up 2005 Game of the Year.

Meteriod Prime Trialers, and 21 minute playable demo move

I have a short attention span so I didnt watch the whole thing, but this game looks BADASS.

Zelda. Back. Teen Link. 3D. Nuff said.

Haha. Of course that makes sense if you totally forget about a number of other games. Nintendo reminds me of the U.S.S.R.

Sure, the games look interesting and all, but what I'm monitoring is how the booth babes look each year! You know, scientifically, is there improvement in the visual quality (excuse the use of the word, they are people after all) of booth babes, is there a booth babe theme (all blondes for example) a specific year, is there such thing as "booth babe depression" which means a disturbingly low count of booth babes compared to previous years, things like that.

Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

If any game should get GotY next year, it should be something like Thief 3, or Doom 3, or Half-Life 2. Console games just don't appeal to me as GotY material.

Well put, then again Halo 2 could make me take back my thoughts on console games getting GotY.

I really liked how the PSP looked and worked. I'd think I'll buy that rather than the DS, which didn't look that great at all.

In my opinion, Rome:Total War will rule them all. Nobody has done what R:TW has accomplished, and nobody will be able to even reach that level for a while. Don't even think about Battle for Middle Earth...500-1,000 units on screen in real time - big deal. Rome: Total War can do 30,000- 40,000 units with no scaled down sizes of Walls or seige towers (And not to mention the animation and physics is way better. Also, ever notice how in LOTR:BFME, the Gondorian soldiers look like midgets?)

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Battle for Middle Earth will be a fine game, but it in no way compares to Rome: Total War. Talking only numbers again, in Rome:Total war, you could have a battle 3-4 times larger than Helm's Deep in the movie LOTR:TTT! Whereas the Helms Deep battle in the actual Lord of the Rings: Battle for middle earth game will actually be only 1\10 or less of the size of the battle in the movie.

And also, say I wanted to create a massive Cavalry charge with 6,000 horses like in ROTK, I could actually use 6,000 horses in Rome:Total War, whereas you would only be able to use a couple hundred in BFME.

Yeah, well, too bad. PC gamers make up a tiny fraction of the game industry at this point, and thanks to Microsoft this fraction is growing smaller and smaller.

Besides, I really doubt that any of Thief 3, Doom 3 or Half-Life 2 will be a particularly memorable title.

As an aside comment, I think Halo 2 might have a pretty decent chance as a game. I bet the gameplay will still suck, but the storyline might win all. We'll see.

Give me your definition of decent gameplay. I firmly believe that the gameplay in the first one was pretty damned good. It could have used improvements in places, but it was still very good. Halo 2 looks to be MUCH better. The multiplayer footage shown at E3 this year blew me away. It wasn't much, but the possibilities... I'm already re-thinking my tactics. Single player should be better too, they made massive improvements to the AI so I've read.

But yea... Just what is your definition of decent gameplay?

err?

They made a few new vehicles and added dual weild. Oh, and you can jump on ghosts now. Sounds like a great improvement!!!

But I'll admit the the original halo did have a pretty good single player campaign. Not much better than say, max payne 2, but pretty good. The game was really overblown.

Those are the major improvements, yes, but there are lots of little changes that should make a difference. Don't ask me to name any right now as I'm completely frustrated with Photoshop and my mouse and thus can't really think straight.

Yah...totally...wait...No.

Doom 3, anticipated for years, finally getting released, WILL be memorable. Same with Thief 3 and Half-Life 2. What the frell are you on my friend?

Halo 2, I'll admit, has the best chance of any console game. Just because of its legacy.

I agree that they will be memorable. Memorable meaning there was all this hype and extended waits and then the games themselves were nothing remarkable. D3 has yet to impress me, I'm skeptical of Thief 3 since it uses the DX2 engine and HL2 is, well apparently its coming but then so is christmas. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Halo 1 really didn't have good gameplay and I cannot understand why people would say that it did.

Have you tried playing it through on Legendary? It's not that it's difficult, it's that you're faced with swarms and swarms of identical enemies. They went terribly overboard and it gets very old very fast.

It wasn't so bad on easy, but it was still pretty bad. The Flood is a terrible idea as it appeared in Halo - the first half of the game was so much better it just isn't funny.

I really, really hope you are kidding. PC gamers make the GREATEST fraction of the game industry right now, PC totally dominates the First Person Shooter, Strategy, MMORPG, and adventure genres. Consoles will come and go, but PC will always be there.

Yoshi, have you played the other two installments of the total war franchise? If you did, you'd understand why Rome will be so huge, and not just in the game engine department, although that is a tremendous accomplishment...it's going to change strategy games as we know it. Other companies are already trying to catch up, and from what I've seen, they haven't even equalled Medieval: Total War from Two years ago (with the exception of BFME).

A tiny fraction of the industry? Hey man here comes the clue train, last stop is you. Pc games will never die, and nothing is going to hurt them. Ever. You know it's not like a pc game stole the show at E3 this year... Er... Well... More on that later.

Doom 3, Theif 3, and Half Life 2 won't be memorable titles? Well you know they say history repeats itself and it's not like any of the original games in those franchises were memorable at all right?

And the gameplay of Halo sucked? Well I don't know maybe I played a different game, but it entertained me a whole hell of a lot, and I'm pretty sure that's what a game does. And if they hadn't introduced the flood, people like you would have complained that there was not enough variation in the enemies.

And the reason I compare Nintendo to the U.S.S.R. is because Nintendo used to be the largest power in the industry, and like Sega did, it's slowly dying. Nintendo has a pretty strong lineup this year, but the fact that Resident Evil 4 is being ported to the PS2 hurts them alot. I don't think they're gonna make it past the next generation of consoles unless they have a major miracle.

What game were YOU playing? As you progress through the skill levels, the enemies do NOT become that much more numerous, they get stronger, they get smarter, and they deal out harder hits. They only increase in numbers SLIGHTLY. What does happen however, is that some enemies, like Elites, where there used to be say, a blue one, a gold one may appear on Legendary. Halo is the only game I've ever seen where enemies actually got harder as you moved on instead of becoming more numerous.

Baldurs Gate 2 has that. If you play through with a high level character all the Gauths (actually i'm not sure what they're called) become groups of Beholders and Gauths, and all Beholders become groups of Beholders and Elder Orbs.

Psh, ign.com is retarded. They mentioned in an article about Rome: Total War that the tutorial for the game begins after the founding of Rome and the actual game begins after the unification of Italy. My first thought was, why did they jump 2,400 years? Then I remembered it was ign and I couldnt expect them to use correct terms. Italy, as a country was nonexistant, so there wouldnt be a unification of Italy. If they had said the Roman Empire had expanded across the Italian Peninsula... completely different.

Well that's a small mishap, but ign is still pretty worthless. I hate to say it, but for game articles and previews I generally tend to go to Gamespy. No one has the ability to get me excited with an ARTICLE like Gamespy. They have good writers. But I usually don't trust any site for reviews, I try to read every review I can find and then determine how good it is, but I usually find that ign has the most information in their reviews.
