You could put it that way perhaps.. though I'd put it more like "the days people got married and were miserable because they were in a bad marriage but it was socially unacceptable to get a divorce."

Emon, come on. The rate of bad marriages is more or less constant if you really think about it. There were just as many unhappy marriages in the 50's as there are now. The difference being that people trudged it out in the 50's to fulfill some kind of expectations of society.

But that doesnt change the fact that a divorce should be a last resort, rather than an easy out when things get a little rough.

there are a lot of things you could do before considering a divorce.

Didn't do a prenup. Didn't have any reason to. Me and my wife both don't believe in divorce. And now, even if we absolutely hated each other, we both got kind of a bigger issue with my newborn son. I have vowed that I would never put my own kids through what my nephew and nieces went through when their parents got divorced. (not a knock on other people here with divorced parents)
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

How is it fair on them to spend years living with parents that hate eachother?

That can be a hell of a lot worse.

Nothing like two parents using their kids as a means to take shots at the other.

Great logic, champ. Though I think you missed the point entirely.

I haven't read a single post other than a few odd ones from the first page (sorry), but I think prenups are common sense. Reason before emotion. In my opinion a prenup is not a display of distrust, but refusal to be naive toward reality.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Well, it's not, but should you give up reason for your emotions or include reasonable thinking alongside your emotions?
