Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
2004-05-29, 5:41 PM #1
It comes out this Friday. IMO, this movie will rule. Why? Because this is the one when all the evil stuff starts to take shape.

I never touched a Harry Potter book until I saw the first 2 movies, then one of my friends who had read them said I should give them a shot, because they are addicting books. He recommended I see the first 2 movies then start with the 3rd book because that's where the real story begins.

Well I guess he was right, because I started with book 3 and didn't stop reading HP until I had gone from 3 to 5, then I read 1 and 2 anyway, and then 3 one more time... and 3 again a few months later to remember it just before the movie came out.

Below this line is spoilers, so dont read if you havent read the books...

Any of you who hate Harry Potter just because its not LotR... why? They are 2 different stories that have nothing to do with each other. I really like LotR too, but it doesn't mean I hate HP just because of it.

Anyway, if anyone is going to discuss material from the books, I suggest warning people for spoilers.

Had you read the books you might know that they aren't just for 8 year olds. But obviously you expressed that you "hate" harry potter so obviously must not know what age group they are for, because most people don't pay too much attention to stuff they "hate". What you "hate" is the way the media portrays the books, which is targeted for just 8-year-olds. I know 40 year old men who go to the bars every night and talk football who love Harry Potter...

BTW, way to stand up for the guy who issues a flagrant troll of a post.

Never read the books, but the movies are damn entertaing. One of my guilty pleasures. I never saw the first two in theaters, because it's bleeping Harry Potter...My mom rented the movies and I am like "Mom, why are you renting such stupid films" But after she watched them, I decided to give them a chance...and I actually really like them. I think I'm going to see the third one in theaters. Screw what other people think.

22-year old male here, and not ashamed to say I love Harry Potter. If you havent read the books, dont bash them until you have. IMO the books are far better than the movies.

Prisoner of Azkaban is my second favourite book to Silver Pheonix. The movie should be awesome [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

*****POTENTIAL SPOLERS*****

Only thing I didnt like about the preview was the casting of Lupin. Lupin is my all-time favourite Harry Potter character, and he looks like a friggin butler in the trailer. He's supposed to be decrepit and poor-looking, yes, but he's supposed to have this amazing inner-strength the actor just didnt look like he could possess. Lupin is a freaken werewolf, afterall. The casting has been brilliant for the Harry Potter so far, I'd hate to see them stumble on my number-one character.

[Edit] I jsut wanted to say, this is probably my favirite of the series so far, although phoenix comes very close.

The third film is being directed by Alfonso Couran (sp? Director of Y Tu Mama Tambien, The Little Princess) and the reviews I've read so far all mention that he does a much better job than Columbus. I didn't really like the first two movies, but I'm seeing this one Friday (opening day) and I'm really excited.

As for the books, I started reading them around the time the fourth came out and I fell in love. When the fifth one was released, I got it that morning and finished it that night. It was a great 18-hour read. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

In the UK and other countries they have different titles, i.e. - Philosopher's Stone

I'm 19. Got dragged to the first HP movie by a friend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The 2nd movie I went on opening night and I'll see the 3rd when I get back from Germany.

Seriously these movies can entertain anyone, just because you dont like them doesnt mean they're solely for 8-year olds.

I want to grow my hair out to look like Professor Snape's hair, it's super nerdish but I think it's kind of cool looking and still within the realm of musician haircut.

I'm convinced that this Harry Potter movie will be financially supported entirely by kids and scary, 40-year old men who live in their parents' basement who are there to oggle Hermione.

DJ Yoshi - in Britain it's order of the Phoenix too actually... ok for clarity, in Britain we have.

Philosopher's Stone,
Chamber of Secrets
Prisoner of Azkaban
Goblet of Fire
Order of the Phoenix

The first two are great books, if a little twee (the cheesy endings of the first two films are even worse...), the third is (as said before) the gem of the series - it's as good as the two after, but much more concise.

Oh, and (brag?) I read the order of the phoenix in a day - after I did our all night summer ball at uni, I went to Waterstones book shop at 6 in the morning, got the fourth or fifth copy (this is the day it came out) in the shop, went home and read it until I was finished - it was just after one in the morning - took about 14 or 15 hours not counting being at work, eating, having a shower and stuff!

Prisoner of Azkaban is THE BEST Potter book. I love it so much.

Order of the Phoenix was filled with too much "omg I'm harray pottar and I'm an angsty teenager" to be enjoyable.

Mano stole my thoughts and wrote them down [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif].

I'm seeing the film tomorrow with a small group of friends; for some reason, you can go and see a "preview showing" (which is actually the whole film) on the 31st in some places in the UK. From what I've seen from trailers, this film looks like it will be better than the previous two, which I still enjoyed. So far, I'd say Azkaban was my favourite book, so they'd better not mess it up in the film!

When the first film came out (Harry Potter), everyone told me not to see it. They said it was bad. Little did I know, that when they said "bad" they actually meant to say "I don't like it because I think it's a little kids film. No, I havn't seen it, I'm just an ignorant dip**** that doesn't know what I'm talking about."
Shortly after the second film came out, and I was hearing so many good things, I thought I'd see the films. And my word, I loved them.

So here's a whopping big moral to this story - watch the film, and/or read the book before making any opinion. I just never get tired of people being amazed at how I can enjoy Disney animated films. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif] Why does everyone think that just because it's a cartoon, only children can watch it? I used to try and explain that animated films can be for adults, too. But now I just choose the swift "Shut the **** up you idiot" method.

I hated the first two movies. I thought the acting was awful, along with the graphics (*shudder* Quidditch *shudder*)

However, Azkaban looks like a much much much better movie. It finally looks like the actors can show emotion (they have matured finally), and it actually looks like it could be tense. The dementors look so kick-*** .

I loved the books, hated the first two movies. So hopefully, with this one, they can fix it, and it looks like they'll be able too. Prizoner of Azkaban was my favorite of all the books, so I'm especially hoping they dont' mess up.

I think we're already doing that. And I totally agree with Jin - watch the films, and/or read the books before making any opinion. It's not hard. At the Christian school I go to, I get so tired of people saying how Harry Potter is evil and yet Lord of the Rings is a Christian masterpiece, that you'd have to be an idiot not to go see and love to death. I think both the LotR series of books and the HP series of books are excellent, and I personally prefer the first two HP movies to the latter two LotR movies.

I loved the "Fellowship", but the concluding LotR movies just seemed way off track and too focued on endless battles to be enjoyable. After I'd seen about the 100,000th Orc die, I was thinking to myself "Alright, I've got the idea now, how about a little storyline people." They were still good movies, but I'm not going to bash them profusely and I'm certainly not going to mock other people were going to go see them. Why can't people show the same respect for something equally reputable as Harry Potter?

Err... you mean the original titles. I think only the US decided to change the titles and text for reasons unknown...

Anyway, I've started reading the first one after my friend conned me into seeing half of the first movie, possibly in preparation to actually have someone to see the new movie with. It's pretty decent so far, but I think the book is, as is usually the case, better to what I saw of the movie (the acting was pretty atrocious by the kids... forgivable, considering their age, but still annoying).
