So then why does he need some hunk of junk like a XB360 to play games on? I fail to see the purpose of X86-based consoles with VGA output, keyboard/mice packs, and standard (3-year-old) graphics hardware. Why not just use a PC?

I still fail to see why its impressive. I get computers for free by going to the dump. People (and I swear to god this is true) will throw out perfectly operational computers because the hard drive needs formatting.

People don't throw out perfectly operational XB360's before they're even released.

In addition, most junked PCs aren't decent anyway.

i can never forget the dreamcast... it was a great system that had many great games...

and no good launch titles? dreamcast had SOUL CALIBUR at launch

1) The Dreamcast was not hyped nearly as much as it should have been, one of the reasons it died.

2) The PS2 didn't have any good launch titles.

3) The driving force behind the Xbox is Microsoft, a company that can lose millions of dollars in development and recoup it later. Sega couldn't do that.

Actually, Microsoft still hasn't recovered from their immense losses from the XBox. They can only throw money down the hole for so long.
