Trench Coat
2005-11-24, 5:17 PM #1
I got a trench coat as an early christmas present. From my family i am getting very mixed results and it's starting to piss me off. So tell me, is the world really so closed minded that the actions of a few children that in absolutely no way come even close to resembling me could possibly scew the world's perception of a simple coat (and a nice coat at that) in such an obserd way? I realize that what happened at Columbine was truly horrible, but that was 6 years and 216 days ago (counting one extra for the leap year). This isn't even the same type of coat, it's a goth style one. So I ask you people of Massassi..... wtf? Just cuz i'm wearing a black trench coat doesn't mean i'm gonna kill someone, i could just be stealing.
I'm not wearing any pants...

Kids in trench coats look silly and nerdy. Anyway, your relatives are also being silly if they're making that big a deal out of it.
2005-11-24, 5:42 PM #5
They're drawing wayyy to much of a paralel. I hate it when people do that. I mean, you could say breathing or clothes represents Columbine if you take it far enough.

Yeah... or you could say that growing a beard makes you a TERRIST because Osama bin Laden has a beard.

haha nice kyle.

I hate stereotyping like that. Wear the trench coat if it looks good on you and if anyone asks who you're going to kill just flip them the bird or something.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Yeah, wearing trenchcoats around my school became pretty much forbidden after Columbine. But then again, I lived in Littleton and Columbine was the closest high school to my house, so we were probably more paraniod then most at that time.
Life is beautiful.

I for one think trenchcoats look very nice and professional, as well they're amazingly warm. I wish they made well fitting midget trench-coats.

For midgets they'd be called "Divetcoats"

Seriously, this is to anyone even THINKING about wearing a trenchcoat around in school:
I hate to burst your bubble, but you are not fooling anyone. You are not Keanu Reeves, nor are you cool. Seriously, when I was in high school, the guys who wore trenchcoats to school were the Matrix nerds who thought they looked cool, but everyone secretly (and alot of times not-so-secretly) laughed at.

Bottom Line: Never, EVER wear a trenchcoat unless you are wearing a suit to match, and it is cold and/or rainy out. Otherwise, you look like a total geek.

Yeah, I think we've already, multiple times on this forum, have decided that talking about how annoying nerdy kids can be is sort of detrimental to our own image. Don't be a hypocrite.

You do realize we are talking about real life here, not some stupid screen name on the net...Do you think I wear a suit and sunglasses daily? no, I don't. I don't do anything "matrix" in my life...it's just a damn screen name... I don't even like the matrix movies after the first one...The point is this: Aside from the internet, anyone who tries to pull stuff off like that out in the real world, looks like a fool. Plain and simple.

For the most part everyone I see wearing trench coats look the same. Thats just what bothers me about them i guess. Some people look good in them, but the rest just get them because of the matrix it seems.

I dunno. Im not saying thats why you got yours, but thats certainly what it seems like :P

So all in all: Trenchcoats are overrated.

ok ok, cosplay is fun and all, but enough of the flaming before it gets out of hand. I realize that a trench coat worn by a geek only makes him/her look more geeky. I also agree that a real trench coat is hard to pull off sans when worn with a suit. But still, some can pull it off. So let me make this clear.... I am no poser, i am no goth, i follow no group nor do i condone "isms" of any kind. The purpose of a coat or jacket is warmth and shelter from the elements. Also, this isn't a standard trench coat (which i agree should only be worn with a suit less you just happen to have the right look for it), it's a more casual one. I just want to wear a frick'n jacket and be warm outside and not be bothered about it.

Oh, and before any smart asses makes reference to me in my kimono, that's evidence of standing out and NOT followig a crowd, not posing. Sides, kimonos are actually quite warm and comfy on windy days, so suck on that!

Trench coats are nice if worn with the right clothes. They're still against the dress code at my old high school though.

My name is happydud, and I own a black trench coat. It's nearly identical to the military issue trench coat, I found out yesterday.

I don't wear a trench coat because I'm imitating The Matrix.

I don't wear a trench coat because I'm an angry young teenager who wants to shoot up a school.

I wear my trenchcoat because it's warm. So. Incredibly. Warm. To get to the office where I work, I have to walk through something I've dubbed "The Wind Tunnel." It could be a perfectly still day, and you'd get 20mph gusts there. Some days, it's really cold, and I walk through the wind tunnel and freeze. While wearing my coat? I feel nothing.

Some people wear trench coat's because they look cool. I'll admit, I like how mine looks. But some people don't wear it because it looks cool, but because they really are amazingly warm and magnificent coats.

Kirby in a kimono, hehe

I wore a trenchcoat around school during certain seasons, however I was also wearing a suit (as was common at my school) so it was stylistically fine. People did make comments, though, even though it was a beige trench coat and it was raining out. Perhaps the gloves and hat had something to do with it, too. I was certainly warm, dry, and very sharp, but a bit dated, and I think that's the main problem with trenchies.

If you have long hair, you should not be wearing a trenchcoat. Trenchcoats only look good on people who are, or appear to be businessmen or other important people.

I find it funny that just because someone wears a trenchcoat, they're automatically said to be imitating the matrix or will go on a killing spree; I wore an overcoat (which was called a trenchcoat by the school administration) during my first year in highschool and I hadn't even seen the matrix until the later part of my sophomore year.
