a word of advice, take good care of the buttons and make sure someone knows how to sew them back on.

/me swears at the crappy quality of button stitching on his AU$100+ trenchcoat.

Trench coats were the coolest in the 1930's. Hasn't anyone seen the Maltese Falcon?

I've got a ex-military trench and it is the warmest coat i have, it also is great for having hanging open when you slide across ice standing up

What? No this can't be!

In all seriousness, trench coats are great for keeping you warm. A nice long one will help cover your vulnerable legs during those cold days when you're walking on a college campus. I own one myself though it is brown and black would probably be more suited for me since it would match my hair color. Style wise they cool to wear, but I do agree that it might look somewhat ridiculous on certain people (short and fat people). For the matrix imitating thing, the people aren't wearing coats from Abbyshot are they?

I'll like a Blade style trench, complete with sword.

I spent $200 on my trenchcoat, so I'll be damned if I'm going to let the stereotypes deter me. I don't wear it because of the matrix, or because I'm some goth. I wear it because leather kicks ***.

During high school, people probably did laugh at me, but who cares? High school's over, and those people are gone.

the mall in Jackson, TN has a funky policy... between 6 and closing (9pm) on friday and saturday you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian if you are under 18...

i would not have been ID'd if it were not for my black leather trench. seriously. i'm in college, have a full beard and do not look 17... the security guard didn't like my coat.

but that is the ONLY negative reaction i've had to my trench and i've had it almost three years.

I get two responses from my coat:

A) Dude! That is a sweet coat.
and
B) What are you? From the Matrix or something?

I don't understand why someone immediately assumes I'm copying some movie because I'm wearing a similar style coat they wore. It's silly.

And tofu, RE: the dress comment: Nice. :D

Trench coats are cool... but they are not everything. I for one usually wear chinese silk black clothes similiar in the design as the one "Ghost" (From the Matrix Duh) wears for various reasons:
1.- It keeps me warm when its cold.
2.- It keeps me cool when its hot.
3.- My kung fu uniform that I use when we practice is practicaly the same
4.- Its very flexible and good if I find my self in some sort of a situation
5.- Its just out right awesome, and unique.
6.- Makes me look bad *** and keeps the people I want away at the desired distance
Nothing to see here, move along.

So few people in Finland wear trenchcoats that I wouldn't dare wear one (or maybe I just don't go out enough...and I don't). Besides I'm trying to grow my hair again, so I'll look like a heavy metal musician, and I guess that doesn't go well with a trenchcoat. Plus trenchcoats aren't my style anyway.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

If I didn't already own a nice leather jacket, I would definitely buy a trenchcoat, because it can get really cold (relatively) here.
