So about the Xbox 360...

First off, before anyone posts on this thread, I would like to say: IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM TRY TO CHANGE MY MIND TO STOP ME FROM BUYING AN XBOX 360. YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED, AND THAT IS NOT WHAT I WANT FROM YOU GUYS.

What I do want is an answer. How long should I wait before I buy one? I wasn't planning on buying one until early January after the Christmas rush, but with the problems it's been having..should I wait until mid-2006, or just buy it?

Gimme answers, not advice to buy a different console.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Wait until your old enough to realize the XBox 360 is rubbish >.> <.<

In all seriousness, wait until the next batch so they have time to fix the 360's problems.
Think while it's still legal.

I'd wait till you can find them in yard sales. Because then it MIGHT be worth it.

Personally, I'd wait to see the other consoles to see where you should put your money. When I first saw the Revolutions mystery controller (the remote) I was shocked and thought that it was insanely stupid, but think about it. Star Wars games would be awesome. Think of the controller as the lightsaber, and since it has motion detection, you can swing it to attack. That would be so cool. But then there's PS3 as well, which also seems amazingly good.

In short, I'd wait for them all to come out to find out which is the best bet. And by then, if you still want the Xbox360, it'll have been fixed and have gone down in price.
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

My mom and brother will end up buying a Revolution. No worries there. And I'm not going to go Playstation this gen, I went PS2 last gen. I want some Xbox games, and I can't afford a new PC to play the PC games so I'll go with ports.

Don't do it Zloc...I was getting paid to play it and that was hardly enough...
answer to your question: after the next batch or the one after that comes out with fixes

Well, main ones I'd want would be Halo/Halo 2, KotOR 1/2, and SW:RC. There would be others, but those are the main ones. And I checked the site, and I can burn the updates to a disc instead of going on Xbox Live to update the emu software. I like that.

She plays like the Animal Crossing and such occasionally. She's also a Spyro addict.

She also has a 10 year old Gameboy Tetris game she's been playing for 5 years and is still obsessed with.

You can't game, but you can chat with your buds, download skins/games/demos/trailers (some for free)

Plus, it's free...
You get a free silver account (everything but online play which you can't do anyways) so why not take advantage of it? It's not like it's costing you anything except maybe the cost of an ethernet cable.

Oh... I thought she was, like, a hardcore gamer, playing Halo 2 and the like. Come to think of it, that would suck, getting schooled by your mom in Halo 2. :(

And so who the hell would I talk to on Live? I'm not going to go game on it and hopefully meet someone to add to my buddy list.

Oh, and our router is in a completely different room than the Xbox would be, so I'd need a wireless ethernet thing which I'm already considering getting one anyway..suggestions?

There's a wireless kit I believe, from MS. Guaranteed to be compatible and over-priced.

Live is still great for the price (free) for downloading new content and patches.

Not all right now, but more will be added. Regardless of your standing on the inside about this, that's what I've heard, and I'm inclined to believe it as it makes the most sense.

I want one. Badly. It'll probably be March before I drop the cash for it though. CoD 2.... and I don't have to deal with the bloody PC and settings to PLAY. That's become the attractor for me with consoles.... The hell with settings and spending over an hour installing, changing settings, updating drivers, and tweaking the settings you thought you had right.

They are being added. A new patch was recently released adding support for a bunch of the Tom Clancey games.

Anyone who's not a silly impatient git whose unwilling to work with a PC for five minutes would never touch one. They're riddled with bugs, not anywhere near 100% backwards compatible (with no plans to ever be 100% or even close. We addressed this in RTfM.), basically all PC ports for money you could have spent on making your PC at least on par with the 360 (more likely better). I like how Ian says it takes him an hour to tweak a game. Odd, it takes me the whole of 2 minutes.

Basically, no games for it are going to be exclusive except a very select few (99 nights, Rare games, Hexic, PGR, Halo), and the PS3 is going to stomp it with titles and power when it comes out. Don't buy one--you have no reasoning to back up your purchase, and as a 13 year old with a pocket full of 400 bucks to drop on one, I'd suggest waiting and spending your money on something more important. Or hell, just saving your money in general.

Just ignore Yoshi, although his arguments are kind of funny  :D

I don't know what to tell you about it though. I'm going to buy one as soon as I have the money for it but that'll definately be some time next year... and if you do end up getting it now, don't worry too much about the supposed "mass" problems with the system. It's being blown waaaaay out of proportion, the defect rate is actually below the 3-5% average. Even if you do end up getting a defective 360, Microsoft has a system set up to where you'll get a replacement in about 3 days.

They are? Because my friends who work at Best Buy (Yecti) tell me they're not. And that the replacement system doesn't work nearly as well as they would like to say. Regardless, my arguments all ring true--the only thing this console has over the competition (PS3) is the early release date and Xbox Live. Considering that the PS3 will also be a PC Port Machine (yay?) and you're not looking into Live, it seems that the main reason for you getting the 360 is kind of silly. You could make your pc equivalent to and most likely better than the 360 with 400 bucks (the only worthwhile purchase if you are indeed buying a 360) and would end up getting more out of it if you used it on the PS3 as that would actually have titles that were original to the system and worth buying.

I'm not. I'm stating the effing truth. Temp also stated he wanted NO ONE to criticize him about his keylogger--look how many people listened to that. If I remember right, even you got in on that. Quit being a hypocrite.

I told him when, and why. If you can refute my points and show that the Xbox 360 in its current form and hell anytime in the foreseeable future would be a good buy, then I would gladly say "Go for it." As is, though, I can't reccommend it, and I felt he needed to know why.

Just because someone did it in another thread is hardly justification.
Personally, I think CoD2 plays 10x better on the xbox...yes and I can't believe I'm saying that. Looks better on PC though imo

For someone who never owned an original xbox, I'd say the 360 is a good buy if you plan on playing both generations of games. As long as all the titles you play are compatible.

OK

1. Yoshi, I'm not just holding $400 in my hand and saying "OH MY GOSH I HAVE MONEY LET'S SPEND IT!" because I've done that with numerous video games, and I regret it. I have thought this through.

2. OK, nice to know the defect rate is so slow.

3. Well...been giving it a bit more thought, and I think I'll wait until after the PS3 has been out for a few months, and check to see how it compares game wise. I haven't heard enough about the PS3 titles to decide. I'm just going to wait and see what the post-launch games look like for Xbox 360, and get mroe info on the PS3.

Your debate somewhat swayed this decision, but I thought it through again this morning and I'm going to wait. There are other things I'd like to buy as well...

Oh, I'm also completely psyched for the Revolution. Gonna be freakin' awesome.
