Is Guild Wars worth my time?
2005-12-27, 1:59 PM #1
Yea... you read right. I don't have guild wars... but if I did, I would gladly join the Massassi Guild/Clan/Association/Company/Squad/Enterprise/Empire/Country and what not. So... is it worth my time?

You should save your time to work on your game.

I'm not the programmer anymore, I already explained that, I gave the project to some one else and I'm just the modler anymore, but the proggrammer has been absent for almost a whole week now... this is very odd, and the manager guy doesn't know what to do. Atleast we still have a forum I think. I have to go see.

Well we did have a problem with the team cause some people were like joining and trying to take control of the project and kept bugging and spamming our ventrilo server.

I was thinking about buying Guild Wars, from everything I've heard, it's good. Anyone who owns it says you should buy it, so it must be alright. The free monthly subscription deal is brilliant, though I've no idea how they can keep that up without going bankrupt.

(Oh gods, I'm back. I bet nobody remembers me...)
Sneaky sneaks. I'm actually a werewolf. Woof.

I know a lot of people that bought it all excited, and got bored within a few weeks.

The game may have no monthly fee but new content isn't exactly free. The game is being released in "Chapters" and only Chapter 1 has been released. You'll have to pay for Chapter 2 when its comes out next year. Basically, its really no different than the monthly fee based MMORPGs, the difference being that monthly has you paying money per month for new content to be produced and downloaded for free while Guild War's method is to have you go to the store and shell out more cash for new content in the form of an expansion pack.
The cake is a lie... THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!!!
2005-12-27, 5:01 PM #21
$40.00 a year is a lot better than $10-$15 a month though.

Not to mention you're not forced in to buying the expansions that come out for Guild Wars, that's only going to be for new quests/story/areas/items. (Equivilent to Diablo II's expansion Lord of Destruction)

I just got the game and I think it's worth it. It's free monthly so obviously you don't have to dedicate your life to it to get your money's worth like with MMORPGs.
2005-12-27, 6:18 PM #23
Ok... I want to buy a key for it... how and where can I do this? How much would it cost? I got like $26... is that enough? I could get more...

Isn't that... illegal?

2005-12-27, 6:51 PM #25
No since you can essentially download the game (from their website) but you need sto buy some sort of key to activate it.

It depends on how much your time is worth.
2005-12-27, 9:02 PM #32
In, my opinion...

Guild Wars is very worth it. It is more of a Multiplayer Singleplayer because you follow a story line, but you get to do it cooperativly. Then there is a whole added bonus of a huge world to explore, and items to collect. The $50 that it is/was is definetly worth it, because you would get the same SP experience you do out of a normal game. The game is extended because there are quests you can do. There is always the challenge of upgrading your characters. Once you are all done the SP mission and quests, you can goto the PvP section which is very much like a MP section of any game. People sell thier accounts on ebay all the time, and frankly you could buy the game, play it, and then sell it for exactly how much you bought it for.

This thread is burn-tastical.

And I'm going to be getting guidlwars to hold me over with no WoW to play. I think WoW is better gameplay wise, but GW is better money wise. I all depends on how you look at it.

Yeah, I got Guild Wars for Christmas, and it's really funny (especially when you have friends that give you money/items for items so I don't have to go fight and get enough money).

I just don't consider World of Warcraft to be worth 180.00/year. That's just insane, plus the fee for the game. For some other people, it is. I just think 180 could be spent for better uses, for me anyway.
